Because they are a blast to shoot, reliable, accurate, and if I run outa ammo, it makes a nifty club. Or if you misplace you hammer One word: Mosin What gun isn't important nor really the point, it is had they been armed they would have been unharmed. I agree, but the Hipoint would be WAAYYY down on the list I would want in a fight, especially against more than 1 attacker. It is large, heavy, and the 9 round magazine has less capacity than many double-stacked pistols. If I'm pulling out a carbine against a large crowd trying to kill me, it will start with AK.

Show me an AK you can get for about $230 and I’d agree with you (That’s what mine cost, IIRC) . Also, IIRC, the mags I have with mine are 10 round. And there are 15 round magazines out there for it.
Regardless, that’s why they call it the poor man’s carbine. Utilitarian and shoots reasonably well with a very common pistol round. Also has interchangeable round ejection port choice and is easily upgraded with the goodies.
