Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki resigned Friday, after more than a month of battling criticism about access to care and tampering with official wait lists at VA health centers.
At a meeting with President Barack Obama, during which Mr. Shinseki presented the VA's internal findings of improper scheduling procedures and long wait times across the VA health system, the retired general offered to resign to give a new VA leader the chance to fix the systemic problems at the department.
His resignation marks his second departure from public service since his career began in the military in the 1960s.
Mr. Obama said he accepted the resignation with "considerable regret."

The new chief administrator of the VA will have a glorious opportunity to improve this degenerating situation.
But as an Obama appointee, will he or she? And if it’s a she, will her name be Susan or Valerie?
A head has been taken. Now it can be called “old news” by the mainstream media and forgotten.
After all, isn’t pushing Democrat election memes, like “Those CWAZY!! Republican Senate Candidates!”, FAR more important than this?
What Obozo meant was that he regretted information had been exposed indicating once again, that Obozo, who appointed Shinseki, is a total @-hole.
Now there will be months of “getting to know whats up” for the new admin. That takes this one off the radar and it will become, like all the others “Old News dude”.

Shinseki resigning is highly important in fixing the VA mess: his replacement now knows he can be held accountable.

now watch Shinseki retire back to Hawaii and get involved in local Hawaii politics . As a Democrat . Where his massive failings at the VA will roundly be ignored by the majority Hawaii Democrat Party and voters . Expect to see this name again , entering Congress as a representative from Hawaii

He’s 72 years old for goodness sake, why doesn’t he just RETIRE from public life?

I have always held Shinseki-san in the uttermost contempt.
Back 14 years ago, when he was still in active service, his answer to declining morale and readiness was (remember, children?) “Let’s accesorize our uniforms with sweet-looking black berets for everybody!”
Contemptible Affirmative-Action baby. But now he has his pension, his health-care-for-life, and his dacha by the beach.
