Working Families Party May Back Cuomo Opponent

Four years after endorsing Andrew Cuomo for governor, the Working Families Party says it may support another candidate this year.

The liberal group fears Cuomo's agenda has drifted too far to the right. So now it's deciding whether to back another candidate, who would run to Cuomo's left.

"I'm very proud of the record that I have," Cuomo said. "I think we have progressive accomplishments in this state that resonated across the nation and I believe that's undeniable."

A recent poll by Quinnipiac University showed Cuomo leading his Republican opponent, Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, by a 57 to 28 percent margin. But if an unnamd Working Families Party candidate were to enter the race, the poll showed Cuomo's support falling to 37 percent.

In recent weeks, Cuomo has leaned on Mayor Bill de Blasio, a favorite of liberals. De Blasio introduced the governor at the Democratic convention last week. Yesterday, the two attended an event together announcing a property tax break for victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Il Figlio di Sfaccim is up for re-election. In many elections, the Dems try to prop up third party, usually Libertarian candidates to siphon votes from their opponents, as was recently tried in the 13CD in FL, David Jolly v Alex Sink. Maybe the STUPID party in NY will wise up and beat the dems at their own game?

Don’t bet on it. Very likely they will back him; just looking for some lefty progressive promises from him before endorsement.

I wonder just what a “working family” is in their definition...

Single mom with kids in government daycare working a union job for the government AND collecting welfare?

Anyone with a lick of brains and disliking the way Hitler did things, should vote for Cuomo’s opponent.

Working Families is promoting Zephyr Teachout as their parties candidate for Governor.
Teachout is a Fordham law professor who was previously associated with Howard Dean's Presidential election committie.
Perhaps there is going to be a race for the Governors Office after all.

Ladysforest:" Come on - is this a real name?"

That was my first thought also !
“Zephyr Teachout” actually is an accomplidhed law professor
"Zephyr " : breeze , wind
Sounds like an appropriate Governor candidate for "Working Families party" ( AKA Socialists, Communists, Stateists ).
Hey , it already happened in NYC with De Blasio's election.
With any amount of luck , this candidate may take some more flameing Liberal votes away from Cuomo .

After a lengthy floor fight on May 31/2014, the "Working Families Party" chose to support Cuomo for Governor,
, instead of advocating for their own candidate for New York State Governor.
The floor fight was primarily fought over Charter schools and Common Core issues (which says to me that most members of the political party are teachers).

I know one. I work with one. 42 year old married environmental whacko with two girls working a froo froo job for the county making satelite maps (for more gov’t control).

Her husband is a “Senior Forrester” for the DEC, the NY offshoot of the EPA. His screensaver, no lie, is of him hugging a tree. I met him in person and he’s about 5’ 6” tall, weighs about 135 soaking wet and is an avid bicyclist. His wife wears no makeup, is a plain as day, is about 4’10”, 90 lbs and, no lie GOOSE STEPS when she walks in her socks and birkenstocks.

Of course they live in an exclusive area dangerously close to ITHACA in a gated community complete with tennis courts and a swimming pool.
