Moscow supports Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro's efforts, in collaboration with the Vatican and the Union of South American Nations, to establish a negotiating process between the government and "a constructive opposition," Russia's top diplomat said.
His comments came a day after the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill to impose sanctions on Venezuelan officials accused of violating human rights during the last three months of anti-government protests in the Andean nation.Violence surrounding those protests has claimed the lives of 42 people, including both opponents and supporters of Maduro as well as bystanders and members of the security forces. Venezuelan prosecutors have charged government agents in connection with some of the deaths.
While critical of Caracas, President Barack Obama's administration seems reluctant to get further involved in Venezuela, especially since other countries in the region have stepped forward as mediators.
Standing alongside Lavrov, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jaua compared the anti-government movement in his country to the events that led in February to the toppling of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.
"We have been able to learn in detail the complex process that brought the overthrow of Ukraine's constitutional government, and the consequences," Jaua said.
Venezuela condemns "this entire process of the so-called color revolutions," he said, referring to what Caracas sees as a series of attempted coups orchestrated by Washington.

Venezuela imposed sanctions on itself.
Venzuela has been going down this root with the Us helping for sometime...we are simply seeing the consequences of yet another revolution....the US State Dept is of course dodging questions as to whether US agencies are assisting the rioters. For those with hazy memories, weve seen this movie before.......Look no further than the US Nat’l Endowment for Democracy, created as an alternative to funding from the CIA to pursue US interests abroad.
This commentor says it well, (sarc)...:
“How dare anyone think that the US, which is in the habit of organizing coups in countries whose governments it dislikes and of invading oil-rich nations, would organize a coup in an oil-rich nation whose government it dislikes and where it has previously organized a failed coup attempt? As a proud and patriotic American, I bitterly resent this slander” toward my peace-loving, democracy-exporting government.
Yes.
Let them fail, but don't let them say, "It's because the US did this to us."
So Soros and Obama are behind this fascist coup in Venezuela, just like in Ukraine?
One guy mentioned the White House Press should be direct and simply ask which agencies and what’s the budget, rather than ask if the US is involved.
I would love to hear someone ask this and see how they respond. Press too often gives them easy ways out.
Well, not naming names seems good about now....however it’s no secret funds come from sources who have political agendas in taking out the Leadership...and the groups they financially support to assist. All you have to do to get an idea is check the protest signs.....always produced by some organization...then check the organization and see where the funding comes from.
At any rate...if there’s unrest of any kind in a nation you can be sure it will be taken advantage of by outside interests. That’s simply a given and history time and again evidences so.
In Argentina....this isn’t the first time...Remember they attempted to derail Chavaz as well....
So Soros and Obama are against the Chinese too? Because they’re not gay enough maybe?
Thanks Tailgunner Joe.
