It would seem that there is a way to cope with changes in oxygen levels. I’m getting older and live at over 9,000 feet with some physical difficulties but no mood problems at all.

I have a feeling that if you take any kind of pills the government is putting stuff into your body.

Sleep apnea does the same thing as the high elevation, or worse.

Maybe deleterious for some. I don't have any problem with it, and my nearby neighbors are in their 80s (only about 4 miles away). My physical problems aren't all that bad and were caused by old physical injuries. No emotional problems at all despite the old injuries.
Some severe asthmatics have done better at high elevations, too. There aren't as many sources of pollution or as many lowland allergens.
Granted, many who aren't skilled enough in coping with higher altitudes in remote areas tend to have problems (high altitude related physical sensitivities, lack of appropriate and needed polycythemia, lack of preparations for extreme cold, lack of motivation to exercise, lack of education in proper technologies for off-grid heating, lack of practice in various maintenance technologies, dependencies on services, etc.). Populated resorts with services are there for such people, though.
