Former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbours brother Jeppie Barbour, the father of powerful political operatives Henry and Austin Barbour, endorsed state Sen. Chris McDaniel in the GOP Senate primary over longtime incumbent Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS).
I am for McDaniel because Congress spends too much money and Thad Cochran is right in the middle of spending and borrowing money, Jeppie Barbour told Breitbart News in a phone interview on Wednesday.
I resent my grandchildren having to pay for these politicians to party. I am ready for a change, he added.
Jeppie's son Henry Barbour is running the pro-Cochran Super PAC Mississippi Conservatives, while his other son Austin Barbour is a senior adviser to Cochrans campaign. Though Jeppie has a lower profile than his brother and sons, he still bears the family nameand has been a GOP political insider in Mississippi for years.
A McDaniel endorsement from the heart of Barbour's political empire is one of several signs the GOP Establishment here is awakening to the fact that McDaniel just might pull off his primary challenge of Cochran.
Late Tuesday in Southaven, Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS) told a GOP audience hell back whoever wins the GOP nominationnoting that McDaniel might beat Cochran, who Wicker endorsed.
On Wednesday morning, Mississippi GOP chairman Joe Nosefan acolyte of Haley Barbours who has officially stayed neutral but has drawn ire of Tea Partiers who suspect him of backing Cochransaid hell endorse and support whoever wins the nomination too, even if its McDaniel.

Go McDaniel, win primary next Tuesday
That should pretty much seal the deal.
Success has many parents while failure is an orphan.
Nobody wants to hang around with losers while the victor will always have new “friends”.
I have asked Jeppie many questions over the years and have never been able to get a straight answer out of him about anything. For him to make a decision like this is surprising.
I really think he means it.
“I smell a rat.”
No rat, Jeppie Barbour is a real Conservative who has supported Conservatives in the past who did not have the support of his family or those who would be perceived to be in control of the Mississippi Republican party. He did an excellent job coordinating the successful Voter ID drive in Mississippi and has worked hard for Conservative candidates. Jeppie can be plain spoken and will let you know where he stands.
Hope you're really, really wrong - it would negate a reason to oust Cochran for McDaniel. What the guy says makes perfect sense in that he calls out Thad's propensity to be real loose and easy with taxpayer money; something that McDaniel seems to take very seriously.
I’m a cynic. Especially after this race. Especially about anyone named ‘Barbour’.
God bless Sarah Palin!!!
I have been polled FOUR times during the past week, by FOUR different polling firms.
Likely because I’m listed in the phone book.
McDaniel all the way and I must tell y’all that the polling was detailed and I know that two of them were from the Cochran campaign.
Man, were they shocked by my answers with regard to that nursing home photo crap and Thad’s allegeded sterling “conservative” record over the years...lol.
We get a couple calls every night. Probably because we haven’t answered any polling call and neither side knows how we feel. My youngest calls them ‘the appalling calls’. LOL.
What was the cochran polling peeps reaction to your answeres re: photo?
I live in Desoto county and have not been polled yet. It must be we are just on cell phones.
I never heard of Jeppie. Now I know why.
No reaction. The pollsters’ just continue with the questions.
Punch #1, #2, etc.
It’s all automated questions and answers.
It’s easy to tell which campaign is conducting the poll.
It’s also easy to tell when the polling outfit is run by the media.
I’ve only had one of those.
The media simply asks; how likely are you to vote, and then for which candidate? Very likely, somewhat likely, etc.
Ah. We just hang up on them! LOL.
If I were McDaniel I would be very wary of the GOPe slithering up offering help and support. I would tacitly accept it but make it plain to them, don’t expect my vote or support for any of your help and I certainly do not want any of your consultants anywhere near my campaign.
