Californians buying guns from out-of-state sources would have to go through the same steps required for in-state purchases under a bill passed Wednesday by the state Assembly.
AB1609 advanced to the Senate on a 48-23 party-line vote.

The bill would require that firearms imported from other states must be sent to a California dealer who would then run the required state checks on the buyers to make sure they comply with state rules.

The law, then, isn't broken until that California citizen takes the gun back into his home state. And so how does the state know that a law has been broken? It either uses access to the NICS that it does not legally have, or it requires the citizen to prove where he bought the gun. But the latter is impossible...unless the state ONLY allows possession of firearms whose origin is, or can be, proven to them. That's going to make millions of firearms illegal as soon as it is signed. That couldn't be their intention...could it?

It’s already happening. Just read that the CADOJ has agents roaming around gun shows in Reno, NV and following people out with their purchases to see if they get into a car with CA plates. Then of course we have these “Border Taj Mahal’s” where they have a couple of lazy bastards sorta looking for “illegal” plants, fruits, and vegetables. They can be used as “gun importation check points” as well.

Unfortunately, you are wrong! Nevada gun dealers are specifically precluded from selling guns directly to anyone with California identification. They will ship your purchase to a CA FFL for delivery. Nevada law allows their FFLs to sell guns to anyone with ID from a bordering state, EXCEPT California! I personally discussed this matter with the FFL at Cabela’s in Reno.

The killer didn’t buy them out of state. He followed California law and bought them locally from licensed dealers as I understand it.

It’s true that you can keep your handguns in TX. Problem is you can’t carry them openly. Or concealed without purchasing one of the more expensive and difficult to obtain permits in the country.

I bought a milling machine last year here in Melbourne Oz and made my own 1911 frame in aluminum. Currently building a modified copy of a Ruger 10/22. No real problems making a gun in Oz, selling it though can get sticky. Ran into a lot of blokes who make their own, and some designs are pretty interesting.
A state that is going more and more into the direction of the Tea Party.
