Seattle broke its record for rainfall from February through July last Sunday with more than two months to spare, according to the National Weather Service.
As of Sunday, 22.87 inches of rain had fallen at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport since Feb. 1, surpassing the record set in 1972 when 22.81 inches of rain fell from Feb. 1 to July 31, weather-service meteorologist Josh Smith said Tuesday.
Fifteen inches is the average rainfall from February through July at the airport, which is where Seattles official weather data are recorded.
Basically, we are well ahead of normal rainfall for February to July, Smith said. Its not a special period, but its still pretty telling of how rainy it has been.
Since February, the Seattle area has seen a larger than normal number of storm systems come through, and they dumped a lot of precipitation, Smith said. There werent as many high-pressure ridges as usual, which is what cleared the way for more storms.
So far this month, there have been three days with a half-inch of rain and one day with more than an inch, according to Weather Service data.
March, the rainiest month with 9.44 inches of rain, had eight days of more than a half-inch of rain and 20 days with at least some rain.

I wish we’d get rain here in Phoenix. Rained here (in my area, which is just the other side of Scottsdale) months ago and it was really just a light short sprinkle.
Rain? What’s that?
I’ll be the first to state the obvious....The rain was caused by global warming. All them glaciers are melting and it is turning into rain.
Ain't that the truth! / polar icecaps, too.
New England area of the USA is a mess politically, all Democrats in most state like VT, MA, NY CT etc.
The one thing New England has that much of the country lacks is water.
Of course, we have some of that in Eastern Washington State, too. Columbia, Snake, Yakima, et. al. They still flow even during droughts, just not as fast or as deep.
Great. Another wet Washington summer. No wonder I’m not as enthused about my garden this year, it’ll just get washed away. Hmmppff!
Too much climate changing! Go back! Go back!
We need more warming now!
lol
I thought this was cooling in a normally warm cycle caused by a heat inversion into the arctic region leading to...
...the dreaded Cascadian Hydro-Vortex.
first time in 42 years? That certainly doesn’t indicate a pattern of increasing rain due to GW.
Houston, Texas averages 50 inches a year.
Seattle usually just gets drizzle which doesn’t add up that much. But much greater proportion of the time precipitating in some fashion (in the winter) than Houston.
Guess that sounds more ominous. And it can fit anything that the left wants it to.
I don’t think it has been that bad. We had some days of heavy rain, but we had a lot of nice days this winter and spring. I thought we were having a good weather year.
Global wetting. If this keeps up the oceans are going to be full of water.
Global Raining!
