Rand Paul: It's a 'misnomer' to say McConnell isn't conservative

Rand Paul is defending his relationship with Mitch McConnell after helping his fellow Kentuckian defeat a tea party-backed challenger in a GOP Senate primary.

"I came out of the tea party movement. I'm very concerned about the debt. I'm very concerned about big government," Paul said on Friday. "But I think the misnomer is to think somehow Senator McConnell isn't. That's what his whole entire career has been predicated upon - fighting against big government."

The comments by Paul, the state's junior senator, came at a news conference with McConnell in Louisville that was focused on building party unity following a bruising campaign in which the minority leader's opponent, Matt Bevin, got 35 percent of the primary vote.

Some in the conservative grassroots movement immediately called for Republican voters to unite and support McConnell.

But Bevin has been noticeably quiet and hasn't said whether he'll back his rival--though he flatly stated on election night that he won't back the Democratic nominee.

That's not stopping Alison Lundergan Grimes, however. She's actively going after Bevin supporters. In an open letter Friday to the 40 percent of Republican voters who didn't vote for McConnell, she argued that a vote for Grimes is a vote for change.

"Yes, we are in different parties, and we have divergent views on some issues. But if you believe that we need a fresh face to shake up Washington, I invite you to join our campaign," the letter stated.

Bevin hit back later Friday with his own letter, saying she doesn't understand "the principles that united my campaign's supporters" and disparaged her stance on a number of items on her agenda.

He agreed with her that Kentucky needs change, but not her kind of change. He made no direct mention of McConnell in the letter.

That is not a logical viewpoint. And not practical. And not good for my pocketbook or anyone with income.

And that right there makes you part of the GOP-E and no friend to conservatives.

We're not just concerned with your pocketbook to the exclusion of all other conservative issues.

All of the conservative issues are equally important to us.

That is exactly why the GOP-E, and those on FreeRepublic like you are not to be trusted.

I do not trust ANY rat as far as I can throw them. Not a single one!

And yet, you trust their enablers. So curious...

Which just makes you a greedy bastard who would switch sides at a moments notice depending on who gives you a better financial advantage.

No principles except those that affect your pocketbook.

We're better off without you.

You are worthless in this conservative fight.

Well, if the pundits are correct and this is a landslide year for the GOP, what does it matter if one traitor to conservatives goes down and we regain the majority?

Who do you think enabled Reid to get away with running the Senate like a Dictator and using it as a platform to bash Americans on a daily basis?

That's right, MITCH McCONNELL.

See, he's the guy who worked behind the scenes to enable Harry Reid and the Obama MarxoFascist agenda, and after enough votes were obtained, the Turtle would vote AGAINST them for appearances sake and claim he was 'first in the fight to stop ObamaCare'.

He did not such thing. He did theatrics while FUNDING it, giving all the ammo to Reid he needed to ATTCK anyone opposing them.

Without Mitch McConnell you do not have Harry Reid getting away with everything he has.

So I guess McConnell’s DEM opponent will NOT be backing Reid 1000%
McConnell IS BAD, but he is the lesser of two evils, WE JUST CAN’T
lose the Senate!!!!!!!

I’m never playing that ‘lesser-of-two-evils’ crap game again.

We ALREADY lost the Senate to the Ruling Class, who have declared open war on Conservatives and vowed to crush us wherever they find us.

It makes no difference who controls the Senate. The country suffered a MarxoFascist velvet coup and everyone’s fatal case of Normalcy Bias continues to lecture those who still have principles to abandon them for the sake of expedience.

We lost this country because too many people (myself included) bought the LIE that the lesser of two evils was a preference.

Harry Reid has CONTROL, I can not stand McConnell however not much
McConnell can do to stop Reid, to say HE has enabled him is a bit of a
stretch. Do I think the GOP-E needs TO GO yes I do, but not at the cost
of losing the Senate to Reid and Obama this would be the absolute
WORST CASE SCENARIO!!!!!!! I COULD NOT STAND Reid’s voice for
2 more years this guy is CORRUPT SLIME through and through!!!!

“What difference does it make?”

Heres’ what difference it makes. Freedom Works who is pretty hard on everyone ranks McConnell at 60% on their conservative rating chart. What do you think Mitch’s hard left opponent will rank?

Freedom Works ranks Rand Paul at 100% on their conservative scale which is rarified air for Freedom Works. Yet half the people on Free Republic brand Rand as a RINO.

In GA our tea party people did not make the cut for the senate seat so we are going to choose between an unknown but likely RINO and a moderate conservative. Still better than Michelle Nunn or any other Democrat.

Don’t lose sight of the fact that the real enemy is the Democrat party which has been totally taken over by the Communists. There are no real Democrats left. They are DINO’s. Democrats in name only and they are way more dangerous to our way of life than RINO’s.

I understand your mindset, however I AM NOT willing to LOSE the Senate
under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!!! A RINO is better than ANY DEM any
day!!!!! You ALL need to remember Mitt lost due to OUR SIDE!!!
Regardless of Mitt being a RINO he is FAR BETTER than the MARXIST
we have bestowed upon ourselves because of principle votes, or NOT
voting at all to prove a point!!!!! Proving a point to the GOP-E has truly
damaged our nation and our businesses for another 2 years!!!!!

not much McConnell can do to stop Reid, to say HE has enabled him is a bit of a stretch.

The HELL it is! Remember the IMF bailout bill? Recall how McConnell was strong-arming Republicans to JOIN Harry Reid and vote for it right before he voted AGAINST it for appearances sake?

Here, refresh your memory:

McConnell sells out Conservatives, gives Reid Supermajority

There is not a SHRED of difference if the GOP runs the Senate or if Reid runs it. The Ruling Class is an oligarchy that has made itself our overseers.

Don’t lose sight of the fact that the real enemy is the Democrat party which has been totally taken over by the Communists.

McConnell DECLARED WAR ON CONSERVATIVES - VOWING TO CRUSH US WHEREVER THEY FIND US! How dense can you people be apologizing for a Ruling Class stooge who publicly and openly declared war on the Conservative base?

You want to keep THAT in power?

No wonder our country has gone to hell! You people keep lecturing us to surrender our principles and 'vote the lesser of two evils" REFUSING to even notice that the direction of the country continues to be TO THE LEFT AND OFF THE COMMUNIST CLIFF.

We're DONE with compromising our principles. We will write in Conservatives like Cruz and Lee or vote a 3rd party Conservative before voting for another Ruling Class stooge like McConnell.

BETTER Grimes in that seat and the MarxoFascists running the Senate than traitors in leadership selling us out to the enemy and killing us in our sleep.

You cannot even BEGIN to fight an enemy when you are continually having to look over your shoulder and worry about being shot from behind.

The guy declared war on Conservatives! What part of what he vowed do you people NOT understand?

When WE lose the Senate again you will have no one but your
principled vote to blame, if turning the Senate over to the DEMS again
is OK with you, so be it, how about thinking ABOUT the devastation to
our small business owners, or our energy industry, or possibly just a thought of millions without jobs RINOS may not be what we want but
they are NOT OUT to DESTROY our economy and energy industry!!!!

You ALL need to remember Mitt lost due to OUR SIDE!!!

You and the MarxoFascists would love for everyone to believe that wouldn't you?

If the Ruling Class Establishment Oligarchy is going to continue to shove liberal Leftist-light Republicans down our throats - we are not going to support them and we will go elsewhere with our vote or stay home because we no longer have a voice in Washington.

Principle obviously means nothing to you people. Only your pocketbooks and political expedience mean anything, given your continuous derision and insistence that we support the Establishment Oligarchy and their candidates.

This country is damaged because people like you continue to vote for evil rather than for what is right. The lesser of evils is still evil regardless what you try and lie to yourselves about, while the country continues to fly Left no matter which party is in power.

How many times I have to say “I prefer McConnell over Grimes”.

And I prefer “a more conservative over McConnell”.

But I have only ONE choice left out of the two above.
So I will go with I can get, not what I dream about.
You can call me a realist.

No, just empower and assist those who ARE destroying the economy and energy industry while declaring WAR on those who dare try and hold them accountable for betraying the Conservative cause.

Your silly attempted guilt trip only emboldens me. I see the GOP-e as every bit the enemy as I do the MarxoFascists, even moreso because they PRETEND to be on our side when they clearly are NOT on our side based on their fruits.

I would say that NONE of us are actively supporting RINOS we are dealing with the hand we are dealt right now!!!! To give a Senate seat
to ANY DEM is simply wrong to prove a point to GOP-E!!!! Something
You DO NOT seem to realize is there ARE NOT enough of us right now
and WE do NOT have the money at this time to change the entire
government to Tea Party people!!! I will take baby steps until we grow
funding and great candidates!!! Another Senate of DEMS is not an option!!!!

Name calling and personal attacks is the method used by liberals and leftists.

Please limit yourself to stating your point of view instead.
