His parents said they were so concerned that they called police. Officers who showed up at Rodgers doorstep for a mental health check in April, however, found a well-mannered if shy young man whom they concluded posed no risk.
They hadnt seen the videos, and by the time law enforcement had, it was too late: Rodger had gone on a deadly rampage.
The sheriffs office was not aware of any videos until after the shooting rampage occurred, Santa Barbara County Sheriffs Office spokeswoman Kelly Hoover said.
Sheriff Bill Brown has defended the officers actions, but the case highlights the challenges that police face in assessing the mental health of adults, particularly those with no history of violent breakdowns, institutionalizations or serious crimes.
Obviously, looking back on this, its a very tragic situation and we certainly wish that we could turn the clock back and maybe change some things, Brown told CBS Face the Nation on Sunday.
At the time deputies interacted with him, he was able to convince them that he was OK, he said.
Its not clear why the sheriffs did not become aware of the videos. Attorney Alan Shifman said the Rodger family had called police after being alarmed by YouTube videos regarding suicide and the killing of people that Elliot Rodger had been posting.

Since it would be very hard to ban someone who is dead, I'm pretty sure that wouldn't fit with the liberal agenda. It is much more entertaining for them to blame it all on inanimate objects which had little to do with the number of deaths. Rather than blaming the most obvious accessory (the BMW), they aim at the gun which they hate anyway.
Let's be perfectly honest, the one thing that the liberals least want to address is how many of the most recent mass murder perps had been under active psychological counseling. I'm pretty sure that the answer is all 12 of the last 12 mass attacks. Any question of the liberal lovechild of therapy is of course forbidden....
He was watching clips of “Mac and Me” on Youtube. They need to arrest the producer of that vile hate speech.
That’s a FOUR star sheriff. He must be really good with LOTS of experience, I mean FOUR star! WOW
What the hell gives these public Coppers the self important puffery to have all the stars on their collars? I call BS! Too much watching the history channel.
The parents were so concerned about the videos they were actually in route to Santa Barbara, they had notified the authorities before leaving to Santa Barbara, then heard on the radio while on the road about the shootings and they knew it was him immediately!!!! Cops saying they
knew nothing of the Videos is no more than CYA!!!!!
Shooter? Wasn’t he also a stabber??
WELL YES!!!! However stabbings were NOT discovered until after the
shootings were being widely reported!!!!!
I can't explain the lapse.

I seen that. When I was with the SO we had bronze badges for rookies and silver for Deputies, the Sheriff wore the same badge except his said Sheriff not Sheriff’s department. The remainder of our uniforms were identical.
These police departments and SO uniforms with all the stars and bars remind me of the old USSR army guys with all the badges. They had a regular chess board of stuff on their chest. The Central American Generalisimos do the same.
Some one should do a parody of the SBPD and have stars completely around his collar. Maybe even a row of 50 stars all over his chest and arms. I mean the LEO from Santa Barbara are so good they had the mental ability to tell the guy was no threat just by speaking with him. A death threat on YouTube should have had the idiot arrested for just that..
According to that, 7 cops showed up to this door. Not one asked to look inside the apartment and not one watched any of the youtube videos. Donutwatch at its finest.
Yup and we’re supposed to surrender our guns and entrust our safety to the donut brigade
