South Beach is 'bout to be mobbed.
It's almost Memorial Day weekend in the 305 (otherwise known as Urban Beach Week), the annual four-day span during which the beach (as well as mainland Miami) gets swarmed by famous rappers, celebrity strippers, and 250,000 party people from all over the Dirty South.
Now, some Dade County residents choose to flee for the holiday. And this year, certain SoBe clubs are even choosing to close till the Urban throng leaves town.

May I ask why clubs and other places, which cater to tourists, would close down with so many tourists arriving for the festival???
No. You may not.
Ouch. We’re not allowed to ask questions about the crowd at urban beach week..........................
I saw on another thread, that hundreds of police were gearing up for urban beach week.
When the bars close because your brand of tourist will cost them more than they will profit and isn’t worth the risk of life and limb for their wait staff and regular customers, then it doesn’t get any more clear than that.
Go to the link and read the comments after the article. The party goers behave badly and cause damage.
What could possibly go wrong?
The Key word is “Urban”. Not exactly a group that’s going to behave and have discussions on Religion.
Funny thing is that Sturgis never has a lot of problems when the bikers show up. I think Motorcycle clubs call a cease fire and the town becomes a Open City.
Surfside Texas ended up closing their beach because of a similar event.
The worst weekend I spent in Galveston, TX was when an event like this was underway. Every main road in town was gridlocked, emergency vehicles could not get through. The world became a urinal. Facilities were trashed, fights, drug ODs, public sex, theft, about any bad behavior you can imagine.
What’s with calling it urban beach Weekend? Liberals have said the word urban is a racist code word. But the organizers of the event call it urban. What’s up with this?
Atlanta used to have “freak nick” It was miserable.
“Whats with calling it urban beach Weekend? Liberals have said the word urban is a racist code word. But the organizers of the event call it urban. Whats up with this?”
Self-inflicted racism?
Calling it Urban Beach Week rather than Black Beach Week is much more politically correct. Doing that obscures the root cause of the problems.
I assume that you're not referring to the Texas State Square Dance Convention that was held in Galveston back in 2010, are you? I know that we got a little rambunctious, but we were just dancing on the beach ...
and that constituent group is composed of notoriously LOUSY tippers
So when are those clubs going to be sued for refusing to serve blacks...errrr....the urban population?
They prefer tourists who pay for things.
How many had to miss work?
