Petro Poroshenko wins Ukraine's presidency in the first round, according to the results of two national exit polls, with approximately 56 percent of the vote.
Ukrainians elected Petro Poroshenko to be their fifth president in a vote that was dubbed "the second independence referendum."
Poroshenko won his presidency in the first round, according to two exit polls.
The poll conducted by four TV channels showed that he received 57.8 percent of the vote. The national exit poll, conducted by a consortium of reputable survey takers, put Poroshenko at slightly less -- 55.9 percent of the votes, but still a clear majority.
His main rival, former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, received 12.8 of the vote in the TV poll and 12.9 percent in the national poll.
Everyone else finished in single digits in both exit polls.
A second round of voting would have been required on June 15 if no candidate among the 21 on the ballot had secured the majority of votes.

Now the really dangerous period begins....
I’ve been trying to follow this. Isn’t this a good result that will take away all legitimacy from the coup government? (correct me whenever I’m wrong, please)
This is just Exit Polling.
The results have yet to be counted, in a country already well-known for its epic levels of corruption, even in elections.
If the “actual” results come in even close to what is predicted here, will Svoboda/Right Sector, and their supporting Oligarchs, be willing to give up the power they now have?
If they don’t come in as predicted, what happens next?
This guy is a Jew Nazi, right?
BUT: What will Rootin’ Tootin’ Vladimir Putin do NOW?
Putin is kaputin. He just don’t know it yet.
Ultra-right radical nationalists appeared to have completely failed in the elections, with Svoboda (Freedom) Party head Oleg Tyagnibok securing 1.3 percent of votes and Right Sector leader Dmitry Yarosh less than one percent.
Hey, anyone who makes a living making candy can’t be all bad.
And to think our Russian comrades told us the Nazis will control everything.
It’s Sunday night at the Kremlin. They’ll get their talking points on Monday, and when the final results are in.
Their results are pretty much as expected, they have always been nothing more than fringe movements, everyone knew that, except Russian propagandists.
True.
Candy is dandy but Putin is quicker.
RightSector/Svoboda and their Oligarch supporters, like Kolomoisky, have pretty much been running the show in Ukraine since the coup, while their arrogance and intransigence have been a huge contributing factor to what has happened since.
Things haven’t gotten better under them, it has gotten far worse.
Again, I’ll ask the question that none seems to want to answer:
Will these people go peacefully, if Poroshenko is confirmed the winner, without more bloodshed??
Let’s see what Poroshenko does about their Nazi problem. I’m hoping he exterminates them like the cockroaches they are.
The answers I'm getting are expressing doubt that the coup gov will leave without some urging.
“they have always been nothing more than fringe movements”
Except that they are “fringe movements” that are currently holding the reigns of government, as well as doing most of the killing on the Ukrainian side in the Civil War.
If Poroshenko asks, will they withdraw the armed militias??
