Dan Patrick appears poised to dislodge David Dewhurst as lieutenant governor in Tuesdays Republican runoff, and the reason is clear to tea party activists, campaign consultants and political scientists.
Patrick, they say, jumped out front for good by appealing to staunchly conservative Republican voters on their top issue: illegal immigration.
Breaking with the stances of Republicans such as Govs. George W. Bush and Rick Perry, who tried to appeal to Hispanic voters with hopeful rhetoric about immigrants, Patrick has ripped state GOP leaders for not plowing enough state funding into law enforcement efforts along the Texas-Mexico border. He also hit Dewhurst and implicitly, Perry for not removing what he says are carrots that help lure people to the country illegally, such as in-state resident tuition rates at public universities.
We need real money to secure the border, said Patrick, who chided Dewhurst for having an election-year conversion as the two appeared before the Central Texas Tea Party in Salado last week.
Dewhurst said Patrick, a Houston state senator, has misled voters, explaining that he secured state money and support for surges by state and local law enforcement to crack down on trafficking and illegal entries. The effort is on the verge of succeeding, and voters should stick with him, he told the gathering.
Its no one-issue race. GOP voters appear weary of incumbency, and Dewhurst is seeking a fourth term after 12 years in the job. Tea party activists who are expected to dominate Tuesdays turnout also appear eager for more confrontational candidates, and Patrick has talked openly of stripping Democrats of power in the Senate, which the lieutenant governor oversees.

Patrick will break the power/dominance of the Dewhurst-Democrat-RINO axis of power which has been ruling the Texas legislative process.
Wasn’t there a revelation recently that Patrick had a history of some Mental problems years ago?
He apparently took meds for depression many years ago (15?). One of Dewhurst’s cronies had an ad about it, which backfired on Dewhurst badly. Dewhurst was on local radio fumbling a response which amounted to “it wasn’t me who released the info” (yeah right)- and then gos on to blame Patrick for actually responding to the attack ad (the nerve!).
Basically Dewhurst is strongly disliked by conservatives in Texas- hopefully we can kick him out this year.
Dewhurst lost the Senate and will loose his current LT Gov job because of the awful negative campaign he runs. I thought he learned a lesson when he lost the Senate seat to Cruz(a good thing) because of the campaign he ran. He had that election sewed up from the beginning, but his campaign lost the race, and now he looses the lt gov campaign to Patrick.
I hope Dan patrick sticks to his word on illegal immigration; if not he will be toast real quick.
Karl Rove’s stink campaigns for Dewhust against Cruz and Patrick are more nails in his consulting coffin. And Dewhust is now more than $5 million in personal campaign debt as a result.
The polling is in and the Rove-Dewhurst smear against Patrick backfired bigtime. That’s why the Dallas Morning News published this article conceding that Patrick is going to win on Tuesday. And any campaign vendors who didn’t get paid cash in advance by Dewhurst are about to get screwed because Dewhust is going to stiff them on what he owes them.

What an odd comment on FR!
Was there not a revelation that Obama was not born in the U.S.A. - But his mother is an American therefore unfortunately for us Obama is an American Commie

Yep a thread about it on FR:

At this stage of the process I doubt that will have much
impact upon the runoff voters.
Ah gee, I thought the Tea Party was dead (SARC)!
Patrick got my vote last Monday, the first day of early voting. I’ll be celebrating Dewhurst’s loss Tuesday night as the results roll in. Then let’s see what the press gaggle has to say about the demise of the TP.
Wasn’t it Dewhurst’s stupidity in letting the clock go too long for Wendy Davis that bolstered her claim to 15 minutes of fame on all the Networks?

I agree. The “concern” is curious.
Our family voted for Patrick this past week. We’re more than happy to give Dewberry-the-EstablishmentRINO the boot.
Somebody start an open thread Tuesday night on this race.
I want to see how blue Texas is set to turn, since they are trying to double the population as fast as possible with outsiders.
Ted Cruz sent out a get out the vote notice the other day.
I think he cannot voice taking sides in this as he is a Texas office holder

My thought, as well.
Concern trolling perhaps?
Anyone who can afford to blow $5MM of personal money on keeping his job doesn’t need it.
Yes. He was hospitalized twice for depression and once for a suicide attempt.
