We can be glad he wasn’t much of a shot and it looks like the victims were all attacked at very close range. The part about the Mercedes was truly scary if he had gone through with that and done it on a really crowded night.

We live in a very inflexible world, especially for young adults. Real communities have been planned out of existence. Everything is a drive away. The level of isolation today's kids feel is terribly dangerous.
The only thing resembling a real community for the young are the huge sterile industrial schools under the supervision of uninspiring government workers. This is why schools have been the targets for many young disturbed attackers. They don't know any other world. It's the only society they know.
The ideal place for a kid to grow up, IMO, is a medium sized town complete with social halls, voluntary community organizations, a small school, flexible work rules that quickly get the young involved, and where everything is in walking or bicycling distance.
He should have been institutionalized long before he ran amok.
