I just would like to note that fathers can also be under intense stress, if not for the exact same reason, and nobody ever assumes that a family-killing father must have been "driven to it."
I wish I had Jack Levin’s (Criminologist) exact words but I saw him interviewed a few years ago and he stated in his experiences people look for ways to find women innocent in these instances when the same approach doesn’t hold for men who commit similar acts.
Part of that is because post-partum depression is chemical imbalance of the brain, due to the various pregnancy related physical changes in the female brain/body.
That’s not exactly the same as a man snapping due to external stressors of failed relationships, job losses, money troubles or addiction issues.
