The media narrative is on full display today. This is a narrative that the left and establishment Republicans want to spin.
That spin is that the tea party is losing. The tea party lost in North Carolina and now lost in Kentucky.
The tea party did not lose. But the tea party has a major problem: It is being hijacked.
In 2010, the Republicans welcomed the tea party movement. The GOP was all but dead, and the tea party movement was the vehicle for a GOP resurgence. In 2012, the Republicans tried to ignore the tea party. This year, Republican consultants in D.C. are trying to hijack the tea party.
Perhaps it is a testament to the power of the tea party that they are trying to do this. It should shock no one that groups would want to try to take over the tea party movement, given the movement’s ability to stir the grassroots.
The problem the tea party faces is due to its greatest strength. The tea party is a decentralized movement with no specific leader. Because of that, some groups can try to use this movement for their benefit.
This has been on full display in two of the early Senate primaries. In North Carolina, outside groups came in and declared Greg Brannon was the tea party candidate. He was a terrible candidate and lost. He lost because he was a bad candidate and he did not have the full support of the tea party.
In Nebraska, Shane Osborn had the support of local tea party groups and even Freedom Works for a while. Then these outside groups came in, anointed Ben Sasse as the tea party candidate in the race. Despite Osborn’s track record and Sasse’s lack of one, some how, he became the tea party candidate.

You might be able to hijack tea, but you can’t hijack God.
The tea has been watered down now.
Heh, don’t listen to all of this media anti-Tea Party hysteria, it is because they are losing.
If you look at any and all of the Republicans running, what are they professing - Conservatism! Look at McConnell with his fake gun thing (and that was funny), they are all trying to move to the right.
It’s only a matter of time and effort! The problem remains is will they actually govern conservative or will they continue to go for the money (bribery and all)!
The big problem is the infighting between tea party groups and the choosing of candidates. Either four tea party or conservatives run in a primary or one is selected and then some tea party groups start trashing them.
I believe some tea party groups have been watered down and Hijacked. The Tea Party Express is now an establishment group. Be cautious of them. One of the people running the Express supports Amnesty. The TeaParty.net is no good either. Niger Innes maybe a nice guy but his thinking is awful. He was the first guy out of the box attacking Matt Bevin. he and his group endorsed McConnell ahead of the rest without even properly vetting Bevin. So the tea is poisoned. And guess what? That Tea Party Express then came out and endorsed McConnell. So now you know we have some Benedict Arnolds in the tea party.
I should also add that amid the criticisms against the Tea Party Express over endorsing McConnell Amy Kremer quit the group and, haha, she joined McConnell campoaign. Cha-Ching. And the phony Tea Party Express is left to be run by a guy supporting Amnesty, Sal Russo. These are no friends of mine. They are all traitors.
I stand corrected. Amy didn’t join Mitch’s campaign. She was working with Bevin. She quot over the fact the Express endorsed McConnell. Sorry for that I misread the info on a website. But the fact still remains that some tea party groups have been hijacked.

Another correction, The Express did not endorse anyone in the Kentucky Senate primary race. The other group endorsing Mitch McConnell was the Tea Party Nation. But Amy had issues with the Express and quit to work with Bevin.
Too early to say what happens with TEA; however, it’s a force not to be ignored.
This Joshua Phillips guy started out well, then he became a jackass. He is the Laura Ingraham of the Washington Times. He is actually trying to defend the tea party groups that endorsed McConnell and did not endorse Matt Bevin. And he is trying to justify the reasons why Bevin was not a tea party candidate. What a loser.
Without the tea party voters the gop is going to find out what it’s like to lose big!
Much of the “Tea Party” was astroturf for the Republican Establishment and special interests like the hospital industry that want Obamacare to be more like Romneycare.
Palin and Cruz and Rand Paul could get together, issue a joint declaration along with Glenn Beck and Mark Levin, and marshal their combined fundraising-organizational strength into a potent force to fight the GOPe.
Do they all want to???????
Perhaps we need a new leader, a Nigel Farage of our own to start the United States Indpendence Party.
The author has it wrong.
The republican party has always been the republican party.
The teaparty is too weak to stand on its own and tried to hijack the republican party by winning a few selected primaries.
So now that teaparty failed, they are all mad. Well boo hoo, the republicans were here first.
God is a Tea Partier? I must’ve missed that memo.
You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about.
“Follow the money”
Unfortunately, this appears to be true even for “conservatives”.
The Tea Party either needs to leave the GOP or it will be absorbed by the Rove insider types in the GOP.
