In the early days of the Texas Republic, candidates were known to call each other drunks and hog thieves. Elections haven't gotten much tamer since. A brutal Republican runoff for Texas lieutenant governor is shaping up as one of the nastiest races in the country, let alone the Lone Star State.

Dewhurst is the bottom of the barrel. I’ve never seen anyone run an uglier campaign.
Dewhurst is as good as gone...
I don’t know why the media is acting appalled. They do the same thing to all republicans whenever they can.
Dewhurst did the same thing when running against Cruz.
Texas wants him retired.
Just call him “Dirty” Dewhurst!

I wish I could go out and vote for Dan Patrick but I am in the dying state of PA-we had 36 congressional districts in 1910 but not that distinction belongs to the folks in TX.
No problem, I took care of it for you on Monday when early voting for the runoff started. Tuesday night we’ll know when the polls close and I’m hoping Patrick drubs Dewdrop.
Patrick will win this one.
Dewhurst is just another Establishment GOP which epitomizes what is the problem with that party.
Will not vote GOP ticket. Will vote the conservative ticket.
No Cornyn either
Dewhurst was on with Matt Patrick AM 740 yesterday and said it wasn’t he who put out the medical records of Dan Patrick but rather Jerry Patterson a supportor but then Dewhurst went of on how accurate and important the records were. Dewhurst has perfected the two faced politician’s skill of smiling while sticking a knife in you.
Steve Stockman turned out to be a joke of a candidate against Cornyn.
DoWorst sees the writing on the Wall and knows this is his last stand. This might even get funnier before next Tuesday.
Stockman was a “beard” to dilute any Cornyn competition. Stovall needs to take some campaigning and fund raising courses to get ready for his next run.
Katrina Pierson should take the same courses.
Prospective Tea Party candidates should use these next two years to fully prepare themselves for the next fight.
Steve Stockman turned out to be a joke of a candidate against Cornyn.
***********
Stockman is a mystery in some aspects. He was the one that defeated Jack Brooks back
in the day only to lose two years later to Lampson. He drops out of the public
view and then he wins the redefined CD two years ago. Then he drops out at the last
minute to run against Cornyn. Stockman did fairly well in his CD against Cornyn and
even won one county, Hardin. But basically he was an unknown in the remaining
240+ counties.
There’s at least one Dewhurst booster on this site, spreading slanderous accusations against Patrick and calling him “crazy” without explaining why.
Has this been forgotten ?
After a relative was arrested for allegedly shoplifting at a grocery store, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst personally called the Allen Police Department to ask how to get her out of jail, referring to himself as the "No. 1 pick of all the law enforcement agencies within Texas."
In an Aug. 3 recording originally released by police to the Dallas-Fort Worth NBC affiliate, NBC-DFW, Dewhurst identifies himself as the lieutenant governor and requests to speak to the police station's "most senior police officer you have there right now." He tells a police sergeant that his step-sister's daughter-in-law, Ellen Bevers, is a schoolteacher and "the sweetest woman in the world," and says he's sure she has been incarcerated on a "mistaken charge."
"If you would explain to me sergeant what I need to do to arrange for getting her out of jail this evening so that you can proceed with whatever you think that is proper," Dewhurst says. "Ive known this lady for 30 years of my life."
After Dewhurst says that he is going to have Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw call to confirm his identity, he goes on to explain that he is a supporter of law enforcement in the state.
"Sergeant, you dont know me," he says. "I am every year the No. 1 pick of all of the law enforcement agencies within Texas, the No. 1 pick. Im a supporter of you, and everyone in law enforcement. I want you to do whatever is the proper thing."
