DALLAS (Reuters) - As former Defense Secretary Robert Gates is set to head the Boy Scouts of America, many are wondering if the official who helped end the U.S. military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy will also lift the scout's ban on gay adult leaders.
The century-old Texas-based organization kicked off its annual meeting in Nashville, Tennessee, on Wednesday as questions lingered over its decision last year to allow gay scouts in its ranks but bar them from adult leadership posts.
Gates, a former CIA director, will succeed Boy Scouts President Wayne Perry, who led the group through the emotionally charged debate in May last year when the council voted to lift a ban on openly gay scouts, a decision criticized by both conservatives opposed to the change and gay rights groups for not going far enough.

The president of the BSA National Council (the governing body of the BSA) and all ~1,400 members of the National Council are all volunteers. The BSA professionals do not vote at the annual business meeting.

Pulled our son out of Cub Scouts last May. Joined the Royal Rangers in July. My son loves it. A true answer to prayer!
I too would be interested to know what, if any, impact the BSA has suffered since throwing their legacy away.
2/12/2014 – BSA Membership Decline
The BSA said that it lost 6 % of its membership after an often-bruising year in which it announced it would accept openly homosexual boys for the 1st time, over the objections of some participants who eventually left the organization. … BSA spokesman Deron Smith said that the 2013 decline could partially be attributed to that change, but also other issues that have caused slight declines in membership over the last decade.

Gates’ first policy change: The name has got to go—”Boy” is too gender exclusive. So, I expect the organization to be renamed to simply “Scouts”.

You are still on the roll as an Eagle Scout. The homosexualist Eagle Scouts have been sending their Eagle medals back to Irving/BSA National since before the 2000 SCOTUS 5-4 ruling that BSA is a private organization and can make its own membership rules. The folks at National just put all the returned medals in boxes for storage. No action is taken to go back and purge the rolls. Afterall, there are more than a few Eagle Scout felons out there. They are not going to waste energy purging the rolls.

With Gates in charge there is no longer any question which direction the Boy Scouts are taking. They are going down into the sewer with children.
