McConnell vows ‘free-wheeling’ Senate under his leadership
McClatchy DC ^ | May 22, 2014 | By William Douglas

Fresh off his resounding Republican primary victory Tuesday night, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell Thursday laid out a broad vision of what the Senate would look like under his control.

Bottom line, McConnell, wouldn’t run the way Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., runs it now, the Kentucky Republican told the center-right American Enterprise Institute.

‘A Senate majority under my leadership would break sharply from the practices of the Reid era in favor of a more free-wheeling approach to problem solving,’ McConnell said in a speech. ‘I would work to restore (the Senate’s) traditional role as a place where good ideas are generated, debated and voted upon. We’d fire up the committee process. We’d work longer days and weeks, using the clock to force consensus.’

And McConnell’s money shot: ‘In marked contrast to the Reid era, we would allow an open amendment process – ensuring senators on both sides a chance to weigh in on legislation and alleviating the frustration that inevitably results when they can’t.’

Elect me and I’ll roll over.

In other words, he’d “reach across the aisle” and enable the Senate to pass more stuff.

The GOP has demonstrated that it is more effective at blocking government increase, as a minority, than it is at limiting government increase when it is in power. The GOP loves big government, and has as many cronies as does the DEM party.

Just because he “won” the primary, it doesn’t mean ANYONE HAS to vote for him.

Write-in the Tea Party candidate. Organize, and write in.

He can be defeated and removed.

Yes, he can be defeated. He only won by 6% in his last election.
I estimated it would only take about 10-12% of Ky conservatives
sending a message to McConnell and the GOPe’s to help him apply
for a job at Trent Lott’s Lobbying Firm.
10-12% is a VERY obtainable number.

McConnells comments strike me as a campaign to win his leadership
post, not win an election in KY. His comments seem directed at his
GOP fellow senators.

So true Norm!
Decades and decades of compromise and Grand Bargains has this
country on the brink.
Get rid of McConnell by any political means necessary.

Should be easy to organize a focused, dedicated write-in campaign then.

Would dearly love to see it.

Win handily?

McConnell only won his last election by 6%.
Democrat voters outnumber GOP voters in KY.

It will only take a small % of pissed off KY conservatives to send
McConnell over to Trent Lott’s Lobbying Firm.

My advice, prepare to celebrate the newest member of Trent Lott’s
Lobbying Firm, Mitch McConnell, FORMER US Senator from KY.

Could be. But Grimes is also hitting McConnell hard on being an obstructionist. She wouldnt be doing that if she didnt have numbers showing it as an effective line of attack, and McConnell’s campaign might be seeing some softness in his numbers there as well.

Not the approach I’d take. McConnell would be better off pointing out the inherent contradictions in Grimes’ opposition to obstruction and support for coal and gun rights; obstructionism by the GOP is the ONLY thing preventing Obama from dismantling the coal industry and stealing away gun rights.

On the other hand, a Republican-controlled Senate is a step towards restoring the constitutionally limited power federal government.

They rule by alinsky's rules for radicals, we rule by gentlemen's rules of fair play. That would be so noble of us, how can we lose?

If people had the integrity to vote what they claim to believe, RINOs would lose. But many people lack integrity. they scream how conservative they are, how important it is to replace the evil in the GOP... and then go vote for the RINO like none of what they said online to all their BFFs meant anything.

It didn’t mean anything. They are every bit the frauds as the RINOs they elect.

If we believe in conservatism, we vote for the conservative. Period. Nor an Obama period, a real period. If we do not believe in conservatism, we vote to win ‘no matter what’. It ain’t rocket surgery, but conservatives have to accept that the movement is thoroughly infiltrated with moderates at best/libs at worst. We can let them run riot and spread their bullXhit or reject it and them forcefully, vocally and without apology or excuse.

Can’t have it both ways.

Nothing is ever easy. But it certainly is obtainable.

If it took 80% of KY conservatives sending a message to McConnell
and the GOPe’s a message, that would probably be unattainable.

But The Gobbler only won his last election by 6%.
Which means it will only take a small percent of KY conservatives
sending a message to McConnell and the GOPe’s.

McConnell and the GOPe’s trashed and bragged about crushing
conservatives. A price must be paid for that, or they will continue
to trash conservatives.

Mitch the *itch; shall lose in November, he had screw his base
too many times, he only by won 6% last time. Despite any "perceived"
GOP landslide. He's gonna wish he had Bevin supporters' support.

A Dream usually means an impossibility.

But not with McConnell’s seat.
He won his last election by only 6%
6% is not much.
With a race that will be close, it will only take a small percent of
KY conservatives to send McConnell and the GOPe’s a clear message.
Trashing conservatives come with a heavy price.

Plus, that was before he trashed and bragged about crushing the same
voters he will need to win.

It is not a dream, but a real possibility, based on the math.

If it comes down to less than 105 the Democrats can steal it. They will have no trouble manufacturing 11% of votes.

No problem, your points were were well taken.

Perhaps people should start listening to us since having a 100% accurate track record in prediction is as good as it can possibly get.

OK. That being the case, can you tell me what the winning Powerball numbers will be this weekend?

Also, since our brief discussion a couple of nights ago, have you taken the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the history and meaning of the Buckley Rule?

It's fair to say it's one of the foundational principles to apply when the goal is to advance the modern day conservative movement. It is particularly indispensable in Republican primary elections and a handy reference for General Elections as well. No principled conservative should go to the polls without it.

You lacked knowledge and understanding of it the other night, so I'll provide this direct link to the birth and formulative background of the Buckley Rule again for you.

Take it to heart in the spirit in which it is intended. Happy reading.
