BATON ROUGE, LA, May 22, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) -- A pro-life bill that could close three of Louisiana’s five abortion facilities is expected to become law next week once it receives the signature of Gov. Bobby Jindal.

HB 388, which requires all abortion clinic doctors to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of a clinic, received overwhelming bipartisan support. Introduced by Rep. Katrina Jackson, a Democrat, it passed the state House by a vote of 88-5 on Wednesday. It passed the state Senate on May 14 by a margin of 34-3.

Basically, this Bill easily passed the Louisiana House, then easily passed the Louisiana Senate.

The Senate added amendments, which forced a vote on May 21, 2014 (yesterday) by Louisiana House. Now that the Louisiana House has passed the Bill with the Senate Amendments, it is awaiting Gov. Bobbie Jindal's signature.

The Texas version is law. There are no more judicial hurdles to the Texas law, and it cannot be appealed — except to SCOTUS — which might overturn abortion itself.

One can follow the progress of this law. The Louisiana Speaker of the House has signed the Bill, and it now goes to Governor Bobby Jindal's desk.

Though it is doubtful that Jindal would veto this, it passed by 88-5 (last vote in Louisiana House, and by 33-4 in the Louisiana Senate.

Link to the actual Bill to track it through the Louisiana Legislature.

ABORTION: Provides for requirements of physicians who perform abortions [HB 388 by Katrina Jackson]

The Louisiana Senate Amendments to this Bill are very important: Law goes into effect September 1, 2014; and there is a fine of $4,000 per violation of this law. So if an abortion did 20 abortions without admitting privileges, that would be 20 x $4000 or $800,000 in fines (I think).

American women have killed more than 50 million babies since 1973.

It needs to stop.

I love the pincer tactics being used by abortion foes on the issue. Take it to them directly with personhood bills, and indirectly with these kind of bills, then squeeze them to their last breath. If you can’t get them one way, get them the other.

No, they are demonic Satanists. Look at what they did in Texas during the bill's progress toward the Governor's desk. It was absolutely barbaric.

I think the reasoning by that judge was that it would shut down the only abortion clinic in Mississippi.

But any state that patterns a law after the Texas law need not worry. The only appeal now of the Texas law is to the US Supreme Court, and SCOTUS just might overturn abortion if it goes there.

But I am going to have research what happened in Mississippi.

Seems like Mississippi should be free and clear of blocks by federal judges and Appeals Court if they have a law like Texas...

It might have been some other part of the law that was considered too restrictive.

This law will shut down the abortion clinics in South Louisiana (Baton Rouge and New Orleans) and one in Northern Louisiana.

It will only leave two abortion clinics in Shreveport (Northwest Louisiana...)

This bill was authored by an African-American (or black) Democrat woman in the Louisiana House (Katrina Jackson).

There obviously was a lot of support by both Republicans and Democrats for this bill.

MS tried this. Some judge nixed it though.

The Fifth Circuit Court is hearing this case right now:

Court Hears Arguments on Mississippi Abortion Law

Right now, there is only one abortion clinic remaining open in the entire state. If the law is upheld, that clinic will close.

The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals has already ruled favorably on a similar case in Texas. So even if the current court rules against, the Appellate Court would probably overturn that ruling.

I believe it is a great argument. The law addresses the fact that the 'patients' at these abortion clinics are given substandard care in relation to any other outpatient clinic in the state, and that women deserve to have hospital admitting privileges in the event of a crisis. The pro-abortionists argue that such care isn't necessary, and that they should be allowed to operate in the same manner as the back-alley abortionists of the 1960s and 70s in order to serve women better.
