All your medical records get put into a computer, and the govt has access to those records through the health exchanges. This goes along with mandatory reporting of certain tests and information. If you smoke or have a high BMI expect a call.

If you can find a doctor who doesn’t take insurance or medicare they might not be in this system.

So HIPAA protections are only used against those of us who work in the Medical field? Every pile of patient results must be covered with a cover sheet in case someone walking by sees a name and corresponding results. But the Govt can snoop on anyone and then blackmail them?? THIS MUST STOP!!

No no, this can’t be true. I get all sorts of privacy papers saying how my privacy is most important, at the hospital and other places. /sarc

This is one of the many reasons I won’t go to doctors. I also don’t have the $ and have no insurance and don’t plan to get any, nor apply for medicare although I guess I’m old enough.
I don’t want them to know any more about me than they already know.

Looking at records in general, not as to any one person, could be a public health reason in order to discover if certain illnesses are up or down.
To screen records as to individuals sounds like death panel business to see if you have reached your end date as treatment would be costly should you linger.

Wow...who could have seen this coming.
Of course, safeguards will be in place...severe penalties...latest in technology for encryption...only used in aggregate...
And, if you believe that $hit, I’ll tell you more!

They do this now. They are empowered by law to do this now for many communicable illnesses. I’d actually be in favor of this if the data was “guaranteed” to be used at a city, state, or regional level that was personally unidentifiable. Problem is, I trust them with this information less than I would trust the Chinese government or Al Quieda with it. Seriously.

Oh, they have ALREADY carved out an exception to that for themselves. Check the law.
