Republican Rep. David Valadao says he's not worried that Congress' failure to pass immigration legislation will hurt his prospects for re-election to a district in California's agricultural heartland. Same goes for GOP Rep. Jeff Denham, who represents a neighboring district in the state's San Joaquin Valley.
Still, the California congressmen are making sure voters know they support an immigration overhaul. They're aware that Democrats will try to turn the congressional gridlock into an advantage during this year's midterm elections.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce spent $300,000 on television ads in Valadao's district, noting that he is the son of immigrants.

California Republicans rushing headlong into extinction. Just change parties already.
Because catering to immigration causes has turned the Califorinia Republican Party into an electoral juggernaut.
Why do we need 30 to 50 million more people who are going to need taxpayer assistance to get ObamaCare? I just don’t understand this amnesty bull****. Where are we going to get the money to support Mexico’s poor population? Shouldn’t we take care of impoverished Americans first?
The Republican party is damaged beyond repair what next? I’ll be 72 soon and have given up on this country.
The only hope to avert CW2 is the 10th Amendment and nullification of the feds by states.
The movement of patriots & businesses to freedom loving states is a logical move to bankrupt the leftist states. See it coming, I am too old probably to see the final outcome.
I pray that my grandchildren will be able to enjoy freedom, but I fear that it will be a long, bloody conflict.
If CA Republicians support illegals so much, they should invite the rest
of illegals in every state to CA. Just as Texas is going after CA Businesses,
CA can invite all the illegals to settle in CA.
That is one great way CA can show their support to illegals and help
the other 49 states.
We have past the point of return too.
Enforce the current laws for three years!!! That’s all I’m asking. Prove to me immigration laws can indeed be enforced. Once I’m convinced of this, I’m willing to discuss what to do with the illegal aliens (and their accomplice employers). I said discuss....I didn’t say amnesty. Thse are my terms which seem so absolutely reasonable to me I can’t imgine anyone being against them. But, still we get a goof-ball politician who wants to give amnesty and trust him about enforcement. Nope....I played that game in 1987 and I’m not playing it again. Let the Republican lose.
Their reelection is more important than the destruction of the country.
Legal immigration is far more destructive than illegal aliens. We can't continue to bring in 1.1 million PERMANENT LEGAL IMMIGRANTS a year along with 650,000 guest workers annually.
“Because catering to immigration causes has turned the California Republican Party into an electoral juggernaut.”
That was funny. Plus they are so well trained by their Democrat masters.
We don't need ILLEGALS in the USA. We need working people.
“California Republican” = “moderate Democrat”. That is, they’re still socialists, but they want to do a slower version of socialism that the normal communist Democrats who want it NOW.
I always ask my liberal friends this simple question: Can the US afford to accomodate every man women and child south of the US border? They say “no’, of course not.
Then I say, “So, we agree that there should be limits on immigration into the US. Our only point of contention is on what the limits should be.”
This gets them stammering. I next say, “In any case, once you and I can agree on the limits, don’t you think the government has the obligation to enforce them?”
At this point, the name calling comes out which I take as sign of intellectual victory. Logic...it truly is our best weapon. Try this on your lberal friends!!!
I do the same thing with voter ID laws. I ask, “Does the government have the right to ensure only eligible voters participate in elections?”
They usually sarcastically come back with “It isn’t necessary.”
I then say, “I didn’t ask you if it was necessary. I asked you if the governemt has the right to ensure only eligible voters vote?” Again I get them stammering, but if they even hint at a yes I go in for the intellectual kill.
“Ok, well if you were asked to enforce election integrity, what would you do?” In this way, I get them trying to figure out how to keep non-citezens from voting...even though they are against the idea. It’s beautiful!!! Try it out.
As much as I share your concerns about voter fraud, I am more concerned about legal citizens (naturalized) voting. When you bring in 1.1 million legal permanent immigrants a year, 87% of whom are minorities, as defined by the USG, you are assuring that the Dems will be, if not already, the permanent majority party. CA is one of the most solid blue states and certainly the largest with 55 electoral votes due to legal immigration. It is LEGAL IMMIGRATION that is destroying this country. It must be drastically reduced.
Immigration's Impact on Republican Political Prospects, 1980 to 2012
Three key conclusions emerge from this analysis:
First, the enormous flow of legal immigrants in to the country 29.5 million 1980 to 2012 has remade and continues to remake the nation's electorate in favor of the Democratic Party.
Second, the partisan impact of immigration is relatively uniform throughout the country from California to Texas to Florida even though local Republican parties have taken different positions on illegal immigration. The decline does not seem to vary with the local Republican Party's position on illegal immigration.
Third, if legal immigration levels remain at the current levels of over one million a year, it will likely continue to undermine Republicans' political prospects moving forward. Further, if the substantial increases in legal immigration in Senate's Gang of Eight bill (S.744) were to become law it would accelerate this process. Conversely, lowering the level of legal immigration in the future would help stem the decline in the Republican vote.
Three related findings help explain why immigration reduces the Republican vote:
Immigrants, particularly Hispanics and Asians, have policy preferences when it comes to the size and scope of government that are more closely aligned with progressives than with conservatives. As a result, survey data show a two-to-one party identification with Democrats over Republicans.
By increasing income inequality and adding to the low-income population (e.g. immigrants and their minor children account for one-fourth of those in poverty and one-third of the uninsured) immigration likely makes all voters more supportive of redistributive policies championed by Democrats to support disadvantaged populations.
There is evidence that immigration may cause more Republican-oriented voters to move away from areas of high immigrant settlement leaving behind a more lopsided Democrat majority.
The legal numbers are at least fair and legal. In my opinion, immigration hould be based on needs of our country. All white-collar immigration is based on this and immigration laws amongst white-collar workers are pretty much enforcesd. With that said, blue-collar immigration is not needs based. The feds let them flood in which drives salaries down for both legal and illegal lower end wage earners. Ceaser Chavez was actually strongly against illegal immigration for this reason....whih rarely gets mentioned in the media.
I hate to say this, but America as the land of the rugged independent worker who pulls himself up by the boot strap is likely coming to a close. People just want ‘mommy government’ taking care of them and are happy to exchange guaranteed freedom and opportunity for guaranteed medicrity.
Insisting that people should be in control of their own futres is seen as mean and unfeeling. Again, it’s so sad.
Our legal immigration system doesn't work that way. We have a kinship-based system where people sponsor their relatives to join them thru chain migration, i.e., family reunification. About 12% of the 1.1 million legal permanent immigrants who enter annually are merit based. In fact, 60% of the green cards issued are to people already here who change status. Most of the legal immigrants are poor, uneducated, and unskilled. Check out their educational levels. 20% lack even a high school degree.
We don't need more blue collar or white collar immigrants. We need far less with 21 million Americans unemployed or underemployed.
The less-skilled, less educated class in our country do not see entry level blue collar work as a first step towards success. They see it as “the man keeping them down.” The truth is all immigration should be vastly curtailed and field work, hotel work, and construction work should go to Americans. By the way, I hoed weeds in a field one summer and worked in a tomatoe cannary another summer because.....wait for it...I had no money!!! I eventually made it through college..blah blah blah. I’m simply saying this to point out that I’m not asking anyone (black, white, asian, mexiacan, gay, etc) to do anything I wasn’t willing to do.
