House Majority Leader Eric Cantor won’t allow attempts next week to include a measure on a must-pass defense policy bill that would legalize young undocumented immigrants who serve in the military.
A spokesman confirmed Friday that the legislation, known as the Enlist Act, will not be among those debated with the National Defense Authorization Act, an annual bill that sets policy for the Pentagon. Rep. Jeff Denham (R-Calif.), the Enlist Act’s chief sponsor, had pledged to bring it up as part of the floor battle over the defense bill.

I thought people who served honorably in the US Military was able to get citizenship already. What am I missing?
They are illegal aliens. They may have committed crimes related to dishonesty in their backgrounds as well as being illegal.
This bill is about opening up a bigger immigration bill with compassion and pandering.
Cantor is trying to destroy the GOP just to please Coffman and Denham. 2 nobody congressmen doing everything to lose.

Man these are jobs. This is the route to an education. Why are we giving away those positions? We have so many extra jobs? Incredible training opportunities? I can’t see allowing anyone but citizens to serve. The day when it was all about manpower are past.

I served with others that weren’t citizens. But then they did come here legally. So I guess that’s the difference.
Illegal aliens cannot join the military. Green card holders can and receive expedited citizenship.
I have two stepsons. Both were Russian citizens and LEGAL immigrants when they entered the U.S. Both enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Iraq. One as a Combat Medic the other as a Combat Engineer. Both got their U.S. citizenship while serving. I am very proud of them.
its a different world. Service needs to be viewed as a job as well these days. Haven’t we allowed enough jobs to go around the world as it is?
