Can D.C. survive 'unstoppable' ice melt?
WTOP ^ | May 16. 2014 | Neal Augenstein

WASHINGTON -- What will become of the nation's capital?

The huge West Antarctic ice sheet is slowly collapsing, and two groups of scientists say the melting is now an unstoppable event.

Melting ice will cause sea levels to rise higher than initially projected, which is cause for concern for D.C.-area scientists and local urban planners.

The rising seas will affect local treasures, including the Chesapeake Bay and the country's iconic monuments along the National Mall.

What ice melt?

Ice melts and refreezes all the time.

It’s called “physics”. Highly temperature-dependent.

Water is a most peculiar substance. Scientists have devoted lifetimes and whole careers to its study, and water still remains unique among all compounds.

Look it up sometime.

ok, understood, thx - but aren’t they mainly talking about ice sheets right now? also, isn’t it normal for glaciers to constantly move, eventually into the ocean? wouldn’t the only issue be if the back-end is not getting built up?

I think Washington DC should be renamed out of respect for George Washington.

How 'bout Stalingrad?

“That’s easy - just erect a force-field around what you want to protect. Don’t these libtards have a clue?!”

Right on...we need a force-field around DC...to keep all the libtards in! Then letting the rising waters in to drown ‘em all.

We should have time to move the important stuff from the Smithsonian to higher ground.

They’ll have all died before then I’m sure ;)

...I STILL see stuff on TV and elsewhere about dying polar bears, even though the scientist that proposed the THEORY was found guilty of scientific fraud!! amazing.

“Hope there are a bunch of sharks in the water when it rises in D.C.”

The sharks are already in DC...gonna be fun when they start devouring themselves...and we might just see how fast the GOPe can grow gonads!

I doubt there is enough ice in this ice mass that would raise GLOBAL sea levels by as much as the doom sayers are predicting. If they say the danger is “imminent” and it doesn’t happen will they then shut up???
