As a platinum-selling country music artist and, more importantly, a lifelong fan of the genre, Id like to send out this heartfelt plea to the gatekeepers of the industry:
Enough already.
Id like to think that I am expressing what nearly every artist, musician and songwriter (with perhaps a few exceptions) is thinking when I contend that the Bro Country phenomenon must cease.
It has had its run for better or worse and its time for Nashville to get back to producing, and more importantly promoting, good singers singing real songs. Its time for country music to find its identity again before it is lost forever.
~snip~
But as someone who grew up loving and being forever affected by the true greats of country music, I simply have to offer up this plea to the Nashville country music industry to reclaim the identity and poetic greatness that once was our format. The well-written poetic word of the country song has disappeared.

Willie Nelson once wrote in his early song, "Shotgun Willie," that you cant make a record if you aint got nothing to say. Apparently, thats not the case anymore.
Disposable, forgettable music has been the order of the day for quite a while now and its time for that to stop.

80's had some damn good music, although not as good as the 70's. Millenials have Nickelback......
Man what a fun show that was! We saw it at Six Flag’s in Atlanta. One of the most fun concerts I’ve ever seen and I’ve been to hundreds. Smithereen’s were just a fantastic band particularly live.
“Green Thoughts” is a Desert Island disc for me, every song on that album is fantastic.
Let me second that opinion. But I also think that the audience for country music has changed: it's less rural, and more suburban, and has grown-up with rock music. Today, with rock more or less dead, country has stepped into rock's shoes, so to speak.
The 80s were good, and represented a cross over between Boomers and Xers.
I think the day the music died was 12 31 1989 All downhill from there
I listen to nothing that was made after the mid 80s. It’s all poppy crap after that, and all of the emotions are plastic.
No. All country music today is aimed at the horny college girl demographic that everyone craves. How long can Taylor Swift make money singing the same song over and over ad nauseam?
Country music has been McDonaldized. It all sounds the same and is mindless.
ouch
Country Singers don’t date Kennedys.....period.
...ping....
“Make that a fake or exaggerated accent.”
No kidding. I’ve noticed a lot of country singers SING with an accent, but few of them SPEAK with one.
Taylor Swift is the biggest NOTHING I’ve ever seen!
George,Vince, Dwight I still love listening to them. I even enjoy Miranda Lambert occasionally. I mainly listen to rock. I don’t enjoy today’s country its got no soul and no story to tell.
Lady Gaga has used Bach as the basis for some of her music, which lets me bring up a fun question (for me, that is) in my Music Appreciation courses: "Lady Gaga uses Bach to make her music better. What aspects, if any, of Lady Gaga's music could Bach have used to make his music better?" The best answers are lame, because there are no aspects of LG, Nikki, Katy, Beyoncé, or anyone else who is high up in the music biz that would have made Bach better--or would add anything to Ella, Billie, Sarah, or even Diana, for that matter.
I confess that I like them both.
My country band tries to provide a good mix of old stuff and new stuff. There is a lot of junk out there right now, but there is also a lot of good stuff. You just have to find it. And it’s not really that hard.
Guitar center had Gary Allan on, the man can still sing.
