A police commissioner in a predominantly white New Hampshire town says he won't apologize for calling President Barack Obama the N-word, and he sat with his arms crossed while angry residents at a meeting called for his resignation on Thursday.
"I believe I did use the 'N' word in reference to the current occupant of the Whitehouse," Copeland said in the email to his fellow police commissioners, part of which he forwarded to O'Toole. "For this, I do not apologize — he meets and exceeds my criteria for such."

One Barney Fife cop in a town smaller than Mayberry spits out the “N” word and it’s national news?
It is telling that the AP article has to say in the headline itself that the police commissioner is white. If he were black the word would have been shrugged off by the editor and not become a news story.
In any case, the fact that it did in fact become a news story that a local policeman used that word in a private conversations shows just how rare such an occurrence really is. If this were a dog bites man story, nobody would care.
Perhaps he is just working on becoming a rapper...

May we assume that since his party affiliation isn’t mentioned, he is a Democrat? Were he a Republican this story would be front page NYTimes, right?
