WARNING: Take this with a grain of salt. This is the channel that ran a story for a couple hours this morning with a guy saying he couldn't evacuate because his van had a bad "muffler bearing".
Team 10 sources say all but one of the fires that have been burning across San Diego County have a suspicious ignition point.
'Fire bugs' is the term being used inside the fire agencies. Sources say the fires started in a way that were not normal -- there were no sparks from a lawnmower or car engine, no thrown cigarettes and no cars involved.
One source, a long-time arson investigator who is now retired, told us that CAL FIRE has a crack investigative team that will be looking closely at physical evidence and talking to witnesses to try to determine exactly how these fires started. The San Diego Fire Department also has an investigative team that will be looking into this.
Locals will be asked if they saw anything suspicious or noticed strange activity in their area. The Carlsbad Police Department has already established a Tip Hotline for the Poinsettia Fire. Anyone with information can call (760) 602-7599 or send investigators an email.
Fire crews have been battling nine fires across the county. No one has been injured but homes have been lost. Gov. Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency on Wednesday, clearing the way for more resources to help local firefighters.
Isn’t is odd (not) how we always hear the public service announcements that declare, “Nine out of ten wildfires are caused by humans,” yet with these fires, it’s rarely, if ever, mentioned?
I’ve often thought that were I a terrorist I would consider starting multiple fires using a coordinated team. In rural and urban areas.
“an FBI memo alerted law enforcement agencies that an al-Qaida terrorist being held in detention had talked of masterminding a plot to set a series of devastating forest fires around the western United States, the National Terror Alert Response Center warned.”
Actually they have been planning that since 9/11. They had a name for it, but I don’t remember it.
Do mufflers have bearings?
Yes, right next to the axle belt.
when will Al Gore go to the site to make a speech?
I thought they were inside the disgromifier?
The guy who shot the video mentioned something about a guy in a golf cart leaving the area quickly, then stopping and watching the fire from a distance. I wonder if the guy in the golf cart is the same person they picked up as a suspect.
wow - that’s some video. The fellow was on a golf cart so that helps narrow it down a bit.

Yes. And it takes a left handed monkey wrench to change it out.
When the gov comes to evacuate you, you can’t take pets. He chose to stay with his.
He chose to stay with his.
If you chose to believe this guy. A guy who, at a minimum, lied about his van.
lol Yes, there is that. But he didn’t give the name “Mike Litoris”!
I’ve been in this area for over 20 years, and I’ve never seen first taking off like this. Very scary. I sure hope they catch these people.
I don’t bet, but I’d guess it could very well be members of the ELF environmental group. They have set fires here before.
The person who took video of the fire said that he saw someone riding away on a golf cart..so that explains how he was able to get out of the area so quickly..Also just saw a breaking news alert from ABC 7 that one person was found dead near the fire..not sure if this is a person who didnt evacuate quickly enough or could be the perp, still waiting to find out more details
I knew a guy that was addicted to brake fluid. But, he said he could stop whenever he wanted to...
*SMIRK*
Just got some more info, the person killed was someone at a transient encampment near the fire scene
