A Famous Scientist Becomes a Skeptic
Der Spiegel ^ | May 12, 2014 | Axel Bojanowski

Posted on 05/12/2014 3:56:26 PM PDT by fso301

Meteorologist Lennart Bengtsson has long been considered a cool head in the often heated conflict over global warming. In an interview, he defends his decision to join an organization that is skeptical of climate change.

The debate over climate change is often a contentious one, and key players in the discussion only rarely switch sides. But late last month, Lennart Bengtsson, the former director of the Hamburg-based Max Planck Institute for Meteorology, one of the world's leading climate research centers, announced he would join the academic advisory council of the Global Warming Policy Foundation (GWPF).

ANZEIGEGWPF, based in Britain, is a non-profit organization and self-described think tank. Conservative politician Nigel Lawson founded the organization in 2009 in order to counteract what he considered to be an exaggerated concern about global warming. The organization uses aggressive information campaigns to pursue its goals.

Interesting. I wonder how many other intellectually honest scientists there might be out there who are old enough to have nothing to lose by switching sides?

Bengtsson: It is frustrating that climate science is not able to validate their simulations correctly. Since the end of the 20th century, the warming of the Earth has been much weaker than what climate models show.

LOL - now that's diplomatic...

As they say — scientific progress, one funeral at a time.

When the wind shifts (so to speak) on this issue, young scientists could also start rebelling against the protocols of the elders of climate science. That would either make or break their career.

>> an organization that is skeptical of climate change

We know “climate change” doesn’t mean climate change, it means man-made global warming. But the liars in media insist on mangling ordinary language to further its Leftwing agenda.

It’s my belief that we are in for a long term of global cooling.

If true, this guy is but among the first of a stampede of real scientists.

The political scientists will bolt once the road looks safe.

So far, 2014 has been the coldest year in recorded US history. The previous records of 1899 and 1912 fell just a short while ago.

Also, the current ice packs at both the North and the South poles are larger than any time since satellite records have been kept.

You know, there's something wrong with what seems to be an implied presumption is this whole "global warming" debate.

The implied or expressed presumption seems to be that if global warming does exist, then governments are automatically empowered and justified to launch Agenda 21 and commandeer individual's rights to "save the planet".

The issue isn't global warming but the absolute nonsense that if there is a warming trend, man is causing it. This is a subset to the whole enviro-nazi/Agenda 21 non-scientific theory and agenda that at some point very soon, man will have somehow made the earth "unsustainable", again justifying governments to become totalitarian collectivist states in order to commandeer individual's rights to "save the planet".

These people have no solid scientific evidence of risks to "sustainability" even though they will blast you with a "wall of sound" about how correct the theory is. But it is nonsense. The earth is sparsely populated and vast ares of the earth that contain vast natural resources that have yet to be explored and tapped.

The truth is that God made the earth to ABSOLUTELY SUSTAIN a world filled with people. Other wise He wouldn't have commanded man to "Be fruitful, multiply, and replenish the earth and subdue it and have dominion" over it (Gen 1: 28). After all, He made the world and obviously knows what's in it.

We are almost certainly in the last days and the truth is, the Bible points to global warming in the last days, but not this nonsense that man is making it warmer. Read my post #8.

It’s my belief that we are in for a long term of global cooling.

If so, buckle up because it's going to be a rough ride. Historically, humans suffered during cool periods and flourished during warm periods.

Global warming scheme is nothing more than the left’s attempts to put more and more control on people, to do away with our way of life, and to take more money away from people and put it in their and government’s pockets. Algore has made himself a multimillionaire with this hoax. With Obama now pushing it, he will probably put more Executive Orders into effect so that he can put more regulations on us.

As usual, discussions of global warming get all tied up in the minutia.

To get a true perspective, one needs only to ask one question:

Is it correct that once upon a time there was an ice age and if there was, when did it end and what caused it to end.

There are quit a few statements as to when it ended depending on what location is being discussed.

11,000 to 40,000 years ago, again depending on location.

As to what caused it?

Could it have been all of those lawn mowers and SUV’s in use 40,000 years ago?

If the answer is “yes”, then we are truly guilty of causing our recent warming period.

So we should quit arguing over whether it is caused by SUV’s or coal fired plants and figure out what caused the warming trend of 40,000 years ago.

In over 4 billion years I’d say that the climate has changed a lot and many times. Mankind has had NOTHING to do with it.

If true, this guy is but among the first of a stampede of real scientists.

Actually, over 31,000 of us signed The Petition Project before Kyoto came up.

But then we never moved away from the stance that the science was not proven, and definitely not settled.

It will be nice to see some more scientists return to the sane side of the issue, but some of us never left.

You’re right. Our survival is quite likely to depend on the success of the scientists who are trying to patent new GMO crops.

I don't know about execution, but the IPCC is checking to see if he has ownership in any major league sports teams.
