Yes even a citizen returning from a country with a known outbreak. its call quarantine. You might just look it up.

“The MERS virus has been found in camels, but officials don’t know how it is spreading to humans.”

I’ve got a pretty good idea.

Not to worry. This administration will let millions of bearers in so they can get free care through 0bamacare.

How would you determine who needs to be quarantined? It takes up to 2 weeks just for symptoms to show.

Quarantine? That sounds like an 18th/19th century infringement of human rights. At least 40 of the first 248 reported cases of A.I.D.S. in the U.S. were traceable to "Patient Zero" Gaetan Dugas. Dugas according to his own estimation averaged hundreds of sex partners a year, over 2,500 sexual partners across North America before dying of AIDS at age 31. After his diagnosis of "Gay Cancer", Dugas continued to sleep with random partners and would reportedly visit gay clubs afterward, turn the lights up, and boast he had passed the cancer on to his partner. That's modern freedom.

If we listened to you sensible, responsible types, we wouldn't have Ebola, MERS, and other new medical challenges spreading.

GRID: Gay Related Immune Deficiency

That’s what they called it. To me, that is generally still what it is, at least in the US.

Times two by 1000 and that will be the number of cases in a few weeks. Then more, and more and more.

I understand the guy landed in London? If so, let see how well the Brits valued HS handles the pandemic.

Two weeks of someone’s life who took a chance going somewhere with a known outbreak or all the life others which might get exposed upon their return, looks to me to be an easy choice.

Then maybe you would mind sitting next to someone with MERS on a plane.

Given time I am sure a test can be designed to shorten the quarantine time, but until then tough, you choose to go there.

You don’t just protect your borders against human invaders but biological one’s as well, but then maybe you are a open boarders type. The southern border right now is the main reason for the reoccurrence of many diseases that once were rare in this country, but I guess letting diseased ‘emigrants’ cross the border is an act of ‘love’ right Jeb?

So far, I can’t find any recent cases of MERS in the UK, just this, from a report about the first MERS case reported here (USA). That passenger (a health care worker) had traveled from Riyadh, through London and on to Chicago....

*****
No cases of Mers in the UK have been detected since February 2013, Public Health England said....Professor Nick Phin, head of respiratory diseases for Public Health England, said human-to-human transmission of the virus was “extremely rare”.

But he told any passengers from the flight to call 111 if they experienced respiratory symptoms or felt unwell.

Mers has an incubation period of up to 14 days, so any illness starting after 9 May would not be related, Public Health England said.

The first was a healthcare worker returning from the middle east. Details on the second haven’t been released.

I think we should quarantine healthcare workers returning from the middle east for a couple of days.

Who would pay for the facilities at our international airports for this service?

How many employers do you think would want to pay for a 2 week quarantine? There are lots of contractors and businesses that send their employees overseas for work. They would have to pay these people for their quarantine time wouldn’t they? Would they get paid 24/7? Would you go to a job overseas if you had to go 2 weeks without pay, staying in quarantine?

I understand that one has to be very close in contact for a lengthy time. So, we shall see.

Who would go somewhere knowing that the is an epidemic there? And why should someone else be exposed to a disease which they can die from because you were stupid enough to go there?

So if you go there get the MERS bring it back and kill a couple people everything is OK because otherwise it would cost to much?

Personally if the you agree to work for a company that’s going to send you there then you and company pick up the tab. Its’ the cost of doing business there.

If there was someone on a plane that went over got MERS and come back and they gave it to you how happy would you be? Personally I would sue the person and the company he work for and everyone in between.

Aren’t you worried about who is going to pay for the quarantine? (sarc)

"I understand that one has to be very close in contact for a lengthy time."

Like setting next to someone on a long trans-ocean plane ride breathing in recirculated air?

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...
