Let’s also consider what Zaccheus was too ... a tax collector. A government employee. And what did he promise? To give back what he cheated people out of and pay them restitution on top of that.
Sounds like the IRS to me. I wouldn’t mind seeing them forced to give back what they cheat us out of.
There is NO “legitimate” redistribution of wealth in the USA by the state. There is nothing in our Constitution that allows this!
Zaccheus gave back what was his, not the taxes he turned over to the government. He was not the IRS, he was more of a contract employee.
As much as I’d like the IRS to give back what they have stolen, that is NOT what the pope was talking about. He wants them to take even more of OUR money and give it to those who have not earned it.
