Republican Primary Voters Seem Determined to Nominate Candidates Who can Win
RightWing News ^ | May 10, 2014 | Michael Barone

Results of Tuesday’s primaries, particularly the victory of state House Speaker Thom Tillis in North Carolina’s Republican Senate primary, are being hailed — or decried — as a victory for the Republican establishment over the Tea Party movement. There’s something to that. Tillis benefited from support from Karl Rove’s American Crossroads and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and endorsements by Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush.

In contrast, Sen. Rand Paul flew in on the day before the election to campaign for second-place finisher and fellow physician Greg Bannon, who was also endorsed by Tea Party Patriots and FreedomWorks. Mike Huckabee campaigned for the third-place candidate, minister Mark Harris.

BTW, as to conservatism, I was a Reagan state chair and I bet you were not.

Yeah, well, being in H.S. and never even having had the chance to vote for Reagan kinda prevents me from being a Reagan state chair or anything else. I've never once had a candidate I was thrilled to vote for in a presidential general election. I vote for the Republican because the Democrat is worse.

The bottom line is that, if your candidates won't toe the line on social issues, then you don't get our votes.

And that my-way-or-the-highway thinking just split the vote in North Carolina primary vote allowing the establishment guy to win. The socon's voted for Pastor Harris - Mike Huckabee's candidate, and the TEA Party voted for Brannon. Combined the conservative opposition might have beaten Tillis, divided it just guaranteed the "establishment" candidate won.

Failure to meet those terms and down you go.

Perhaps, or maybe the all-or-nothing types just make themselves irrelevant to the process. Lots of people drop out of the system. It doesn't help, it just reshapes the electorate since, ultimately, politicians cater to who actually votes in a general election. If you don't, then politicians don't care about you.

The primaries are your opportunity to vote for whom you really like. If you want to beat the mushy moderates, social conservatives and more libertarian leaning TEA (TAXED ENOUGH ALREADY) Party types have unify, otherwise the squish wins. And when it comes to general elections in our 2 party system with no opportunity for coalition governance, those are a choice between the 2 candidates that CAN win - rarely will it be an affirmative endorsement of a candidate you really like, not in our system anyway.

“Conservative seat (not just a Republican seat) thrown away because Todd Aiken’s ego was more important than the Conservative cause.”

So tell me what was conservative about the two RINO asses

2008 - MCLame
2012 - Milktoast something or other

"who can win" is code for "are on board with the left."

Who can win is code for who can win. In politics, winning is not the most important thing, it's the only thing. Show me someone who can't win and I'll show you a loser.

“Exactly!! He should have bowed out gracefully and backed his replacement. “

If you think that giving up and supporting someone else is the right thing to do in these cases, where were you in

2008 - MClame
2012 - Mittens, I love Obamacare

You’re comparing apples and oranges Dan. Todd Akin was a national disgrace. Everyone knew he was finished. Everyone except him, his ugly wife and ugly kids. Even the Conservative purists really didn’t believe he had a chance; they were just biting off their noses to spite their faces.

Here’s my philosophy.

The Democrats are not a political party, they are an organized criminal enterprise. I will never vote for a Democrat as long as I still draw a breath. NEVER.

I will always vote. Sitting home and pouting does not make sense to me.

Voting for some third party candidate is usually a fruitless exercise. I believe that those who voted for Perot were misguided and I doubt that I would follow suit unless I could see a way forward for a Conservative Party that supplants the Republicans.

That means that I will always vote for the Republican candidate in the general. But, in the primary I will not vote for some GOPe phony who pretends to be conservative come election time. I will not vote for Senator Roberts in the primary this year, but he will get my vote in the general (he will win the primary).

Fortunately, I haven’t had to vote for any lefties on the Republican ticket here in Kansas, but I’ll never vote Democrat and I won’t throw away my vote.

Not much, but they weren't Obama. I haven't liked the way things have turned out with your guy Obama in charge, so I gotta think that things would have turned out better with one of those guys running things. Obamacare is one thing that never would have happened, for starters.

It's still close enough to be concerned about Jackson, Clay, and Platte County in KC and the St. Louis suburbs. They are full of wobbly kneed conservative women who could easily shift the vote to McCaskill. Winning against her will take a good candidate with a good organization and plenty of money.

My, my, someone is getting a little bit defensive and winey.

Obama is a commie. And while I was born in a commie country from which I and my family escaped when I was young. I do not claim Obama as mine.

“Obamacare is one thing that never would have happened, for starters.”

Oh contra re - Let us not forget the estimable RINO Bush II and his Supreme Court appointments. Some people find Tax codes or Penumbras where none exist

Dan, Dan, Dan

If you didn’t vote for McLame or McRomney, then you helped Obama. I’m sure that you can’t stand the guy, but believe me, he’s very thankful for your support.

As for Obamacare, it would have been vetoed and probably never would have passed the Senate, as the Democrats who were bribed to vote for it would have been unwilling to commit political suicide for a bill that was not going to become law. Obamacare is so called because it never would have happened without him.

Centurion316 you amuse me, I cannot figure out if you have a bottle in front of you or a frontal lobotomy.

you do keep repeating yourself as if you have not read anything I have written.

Voting for RINOs does not improve our lives. It does hover enslave us in a socialist/communist hell - look at South America for that may be our future.

Dan, centurion and the rest of the losers only think in terms of voting "against." That is centurion's total argument -- it's not about voting FOR a destination, it's about voting AGAINST the other guy's destination with zero zip nada eye as to the destination of the guy you're voting FOR as the condition of voting "against" the other guy.

A loser's game.

I read that many primary voters didn’t even like Romney as their first choice, but voted for him because they thought he could win.

How did that work out?

The GOP was dead meat the moment it nominated Romney. Ditto McCain. Only a cumbersome withdrawal of candidacy might have changed that and ONLY if a genuine Republican, a genuine conservative and a competent and ideologically trustworthy candidate took over. That is not what the corrupt Wall Street boodlers, and K Street sleazebag bundlers, and special interest greedheads and spoiled trust fund babies and social revolutionary polo players want. They want to buy nominations for elitist trash, cram them down our throats, and amazingly expect conservatives to go along for the ride. NO MORE!!!!

If a Romney wins, how do I win for the issues I care about. Likewise McLame. Beating the Demonrats is NOT ENOUGH!!!! Nor is beating Obozo if we have to turn our country over to the same useless and feckless trash that the ruling class GOP-E keep financing. Better to lose honorably than sell our souls to run around mindlessly chanting: WE'RE #1!!! before we are inevitably sold out by the same old, same old GOP-E scumbags.

What's the worst that can happen? Muffie's and Skipper's fat cat tax breaks go away? Obozo confiscates their inheritances???? Tooooo badddd! Soooo sadddd! Screw them and their zillions and they can go to the very end of the line for a change. Maybe they will begin to appreciate the value of conservatives when they have nothing left and have to start over. If that means losing their palaces in the Hamptons, and their cushy lifestyles, oh well.....!! No more bailouts. Let them suicide by jumping off the top of Wall Street's highest buildings if their $$$$ means soooooo much to them. Especially if they grab Tokyo Rove and his pals in a death grip on the way down.

Obozocare would never have become law without abortion-loving and perversion posing as "marriage" in Raxachusetts Romney ramming through Romneycare first with taxpayer-funded sex change operations thrown into Romneycare so Romney could play to the pervert lobby with taxpayer $$$$.

If you were favorable to McLame or Romney and even willing to vote for either or both, then look in the mirror to see who is responsible for Obozo's two terms. Did you even get a White House Christmas or Kwanzaa card?

Every bit as much as I despise Obozo and then some, I despise McLame and Romney even more for what they do to what had been my political party and have done to my country.
