In an interview with Yahoo News surrounding the 40th anniversary of his comedic masterpiece "Blazing Saddles," co-writer/director Mel Brooks blasted present-day political correctness and says he was "lucky" to have made the film in the days when he still could:
"They can't make that movie today because everybody's so politically correct. You know, the NAACP would stop a great movie that would do such a great service to black people because of the N-word," says Brooks. "You've got to really examine these things and see what's right and what's wrong. Politically correct is absolutely wrong. Because it inhibits the freedom of thought. I'm so lucky that they weren't so strong then and that the people that let things happen on the screen weren't so powerful then. I was very lucky."
In the comment sections and on Twitter, I caught all kinds of entertaining hell (Kos is especially perturbed) for my review of the new 40th Anniversary Bluray of "Blazing Saddles" and for a follow-up piece, both of which stated the obvious: That today's Left has become a bunch of insufferable, joy-killing, censorious, fascist Church Ladies who would never allow "Blazing Saddles" to be made today and that they will someday try to have the film banned.
It looks as though Mr. Brooks agrees with my first point. That's because Mel Brooks is a free-thinking liberal, not a freedom-stifling, controlling, free speech-hating leftist....

You are correct. While Blazing Saddles was a very funny movie, it projected the liberal myth of evil, nasty white people and the angelic, perfect black person. Most films and tv shows of that day were very p.c. in that regard, and Brooks’s film was no exception.
That sounds similar to the saying that you can tell who your masters are by who you are allowed to criticize. And it also sounds like you can tell who your masters are by who you are not allowed to make fun of. Which is basically the same thing as outright criticism.
I say the same thing every time I watch it. Brooks offended everyone equally and made an anti racism point at the same time. Wilder and Little were perfect and Brooks as the Indian!! Only the end kinda ruined it with the limo driving off. Brilliant movie!
Some of the best movies ever made were made by Mel.
And he’s right.
Those movies were from a time when this country was free.

I especially liked the part where they were sitting around the campfire leaving farts. That couldn’t be done today .... too many farts in key government positions.

It goes even beyond that. The inability to laugh or enjoy humor is much like a bitter disability. They are blind, and resent horribly the ability of others to see.
In socialists, this is compounded because of their obsession with herd-like “equality” in all things. They think it is *unfair* that someone else can see or have a sense of humor, and they cannot.
Importantly, having such an inflexible and brittle reality only appears to give them structure and strength. In truth, if anything “breaks” their reality, they have something much like a mental breakdown. Some are even forced into their underlying schizophrenia.
“The Producers” is my all time favorite Brook’s film.
Mocking the Nazi’s in the comedic fashion of that movie would no doubt be heavily scrutinized today.
I would give almost anything to see the out takes from Blazing Saddles....they’re probably even better than the movie.
That’s how I see it too. The movie is PC to the hilt. Only superficially is it not PC.

I tossed in a Pulp Fiction quote with asterisks in a recent thread about famous movie quotes and one of the humorless FR mods deleted it.
FR is becoming PC to a sickening degree as well as movies it seems. Have had post using the term Wookie delted as well. Cannot have humor or poke fun it seems.

And sometimes laughing at absurdity, horror and in civility will render it empty...
