Police Shooting Frenzy Raises Concerns

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – On December 10, more than two dozen police officers from across Miami Dade County converged on a blue Volvo that had crashed in the backyard of a townhouse on 65th Street just off 27th Avenue.

As the car was wedged helplessly between a light pole and a tree, nearly a minute passed before officers opened up – firing approximately 50 bullets at the car and the two unarmed men inside the vehicle.

The two men inside the car survived that initial volley of gunfire, according to witnesses, who said they could see the men moving inside the Volvo. Everything went quiet for nearly two minutes before the officers opened up a second time – unleashing an unrelenting torrent of bullets that lasted almost 25 seconds. By the time it was over, the two men inside the car were dead.

CBS4 News has learned a total of 23 officers fired a total of at least 377 rounds.

Bullets were sprayed everywhere. They hit the Volvo, other cars in the lot, fence posts and neighboring businesses. They blasted holes in a townhouse where a 12-year-old dove to the ground for cover and a four month old slept in his crib.

The sound of the gunfire was deafening – literally deafening. Two Miami police officers sustained ruptured ear drums from the cacophony of shots.

Well, even if the weren’t, ya don’t fire hundreds of rounds at unarmed people, one of which appears to have committed no crime.

This is incredibly out of control. Of course everything to do with government, at all levels nowadays, is now out of control.

I think were witnessing the breakup or at least a total breakdown of a government at all levels.

“They did suffer fairly heavy casualties, especially since they were shooting at two guys, just sitting in a car.

Their casualties were self inflicted. That is clear evidence of loss of control. It certainly doesn’t justify their crazy behavior.

“There’s no helping the situation. Cops are now militarized, and have become a standing army that will grind us under their heel.”

Yeah, I agree. Unfortunately, I don’t see this getting fixed without a serious, long-term altercation.

There is no more fun than having live targets for shooting practice.

Something that always gets me in movies and TV dramas, is when the city blocks are cordoned off, SWAT is on site, the snipers in place, the assault team in place, several hundred cops with shotguns, and ARs and pistols in place, the bad guy or guys inside the building, and the Chief, or negotiator with the microphone and in total safety and out of any useful position for shooting, feels the need to have his own 38 pistol drawn and at the ready.

That always amuses me, I guess it is more realistic than I realized.

I'll answer that: As long as some copper is going to the extreme you mentioned, I intend not to escalate a situation wherein I know I am going to lose, either today or in the near future. My dad also was proud to say he did not raise an idiot for a son.

Like the crowd that believes pro wrestling is real, there are those who watch the same films you watched.... Hang in there, you haven’t seen anything yet.

Matthew 10.28 Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

This is my imagination talking,
but maybe...

The video news report says that
all the South Florida police
were looking for them.

“Let’s find and get those cop
killers! We have the green light!”

The police radio said they’re
armed (false) and dangerous.

More reason to open fire they think.

Then the convergence, with cross
fire.

“Shots fired.”

The suspects tried to give up.
Believe it!

They had a hard time making the cops
back off.

Can you believe it?!?

I bet those perps thought they had a chance
to give up and live.

Granted an officer was killed earlier, but they killed a man in the car that hadn't committed any crime. And the cops didn't give a rats ass if they killed innocent bystanders. And they didn't even give a rats ass if they shot each other, which they did.

Police these days look like they are unwilling to risk an "OJ jury" letting a cop killer off. They seem uninterested in taking such a perp alive, and will not care about killing innocent civilians. They only seem to care about "their gang" (fellow police).

What bothers me, is seeing that modern cops are terrified cowards, who seem to always be on the verge of violent panic and lashing out in fear and anger.

In the past, people became police more for the honor and respect they could earn by the uniform, than for the paycheck. These were men of courage and honor.

Too many current police are in it for the union-mandated pay, benefits, and retirement packages. The police depts select for people who will follow orders, rather than men of courage and honor.

The fragile weakness of this setup is that a recruit who is in it just for the pay, will run if he is placed in actual risk. This is why, in so many recent school shooting incidents, the police wait safely outside until they have overwhelming force, even though doing so ensures more children will die.

This lack of courage is why they feel so compelled to respond savagely to anybody who shoots one of their own. They are afraid of what would happen if people were more willing to fire on police.
