MIAMI (CBSMiami) On December 10, more than two dozen police officers from across Miami Dade County converged on a blue Volvo that had crashed in the backyard of a townhouse on 65th Street just off 27th Avenue.
As the car was wedged helplessly between a light pole and a tree, nearly a minute passed before officers opened up firing approximately 50 bullets at the car and the two unarmed men inside the vehicle.
The two men inside the car survived that initial volley of gunfire, according to witnesses, who said they could see the men moving inside the Volvo. Everything went quiet for nearly two minutes before the officers opened up a second time unleashing an unrelenting torrent of bullets that lasted almost 25 seconds. By the time it was over, the two men inside the car were dead.
CBS4 News has learned a total of 23 officers fired a total of at least 377 rounds.
Bullets were sprayed everywhere. They hit the Volvo, other cars in the lot, fence posts and neighboring businesses. They blasted holes in a townhouse where a 12-year-old dove to the ground for cover and a four month old slept in his crib.
The sound of the gunfire was deafening literally deafening. Two Miami police officers sustained ruptured ear drums from the cacophony of shots.

LOL. When I feel like responding, but have nothing useful to say, I turn to the trusty Random Political Rhetoric Generator. Feel free to use it if you get writer's block.

Execution is not part of their job description.
Probably because dog targets werent allowed.
No, I meant what I said.
Get down on your belly, offer to lick his boots, pull your pants down.
Or would you rather be an American? Even a dead American.
You and some others just post a bunch of repetitive wisecracks on police threads that don't help the situation.
Remember the good old days when cops would spend 40 year on the job and never take their gun out of their holster? Dogs were a lot safer back then.
The cops are being trained for what it will be like in the new world order.
Its heresy to read the article, but not to display a sense of humor.
Just strange because these are cops, not military, and it was an arrest not a battle.
In this case, there was no battle, it was two guys sitting in a car.
You won’t ever see civilians do this for the simple reason that every bullet they discharge carries tangible liability of either a civil or criminal nature.
For example, at this very moment, the FBI is pouring over video and still photos of all the people who came to the aid of the Bundy family in Nevada to see if they can identify anyone who even so much as pointed a firearm in the general direction of the assembled throng of government thugs.
We have given the police too much personal immunity. And of course government protects its own.
There is no situation that cannot be made worse by the presence of a cop, and cops are now enemies of the American people.
Yep, it seems that law enforcement is heading that way.
Aren’t these guys supposed to have a certain amount of range time? And aren’t these guys supposed to be short of ammo like the rest of us?
If you or I launch a stray round at a bad guy in our house, we are liable big time. These guys spray bullets all over the place and it just another day at the office.
When our kids were small we taught them that the lawman was your friend. Now we teach them differently.
Do a search on FR “police shooting”.
LOTS of stories pop up.
Just recently a 93 year old woman was killed by a cop in Hearne, Texas. Wasn’t his first time to shoot someone.
It was an execution.
There are exceptions. For example, Dallas PD is held to a higher standard. A cop who killed an unarmed civilian just got indicted for murder here. But in general, you are correct.
A cop killer was surrounded in Houston about 20 years ago in the parking lot of gunspoint mall.
The killer got out his car and leveled his weapon at a cop.
The cops present dropped the guy with a few shots. There were no stray bullets and no dogs were sent to heaven.
My how have times changed.
And a witness swears by all that is Holy that both men were trying to surrender at the instructions of the police when the police opened fire again.
Good thing they did not have a dog with them or the police would still be shooting.
