He’s got money. I’ve noticed quite a few people slimming down in the Obama economy. And Katie Couric’s new crusade against sugar. We could actually be on the verge of food stamp restrictions which won’t allow “bad food” to be purchased. He who pays the piper calls the tune.

I read awhile back that food was the number one addiction in this country, more than all drugs and alcohol combined. They got the number from counting the number of obese. We seem to be moving in a direction that treats the obese like we do drug addicts and I see many links between food addicts and drug addicts.

I'm not so sure it's "food is an addiction" compared to "look how people are eating today (and how much.)

If you compare today's "modern" diet with that of the 40's, 50's and 60's you'd see that today we eat more refined and processed foods than we ever have.

Back in the 40's - 60's meals were made at home "from scratch", we didn't have all these prepared foods high in salt, carbohydrates, and all kinds of chemicals going through our digestive systems. We also didn't have an obesity problem in this country.

It's been pretty well known that the instances of heart disease and intestinal cancer for example were far less "back in the day" than they are today. Much of that, along with our society getting fatter is directly correlated with the refined/heavily processed "foods" we eat.

Want to lose weight? Stop eating refined/processed foods, (junk food) and sugary drinks or drinks high in empty calories. For most people, simply switching to a natural food diet does the trick in losing weight.

Those that can't will likely have some form of metabolic disorder, or something else related to medication (prednisone, steroids for example cause rapid weight gain.) Beyond that group --- those are the people who get fat through eating crap.

I think EBT already disallows “bad” food. Katie Couric is a moron. I saw her on tv this morning and she should look to relieving her bad facelift than worrying about what others eat.

People eat “processed” food because they work much longer hours than they did in the 40s and 50s and 60s. Get women back in the kitchen and you will see slenderness return. But women are running from one job to another while also buying food, preparing food and serving food. No wonder they take short cuts.

Potato chips, soda, candy, generally, are all allowed. And, yeah, she’s a dope.

If anyone was hard-wired, there would be far less variety in people’s free choices. Men can be conditioned to find scarification and head-molding desirable, and they can be conditioned to find the figures of pre-teen boys desirable.

Yes, but those are the exceptions to the rule that men generally prefer women with certain proportions, and always have.

Sorry, but you can’t store and burn more calories than you consume. It is physically impossible.

I grant that some medical conditions make people lethargic, or hungry, which leads to weigh gain and difficulties losing weight.

Also, most people making these excuses can certainly eat better and be more active to lose weight.

It does obese people no good to help them make excuses for behavior choices that will make their life short and unpleasant.

Do you have a link so that I can see that EBT allows candy?

Sorry, but did you ever think it’s none of your business what other people eat?

The assault on smokers was the beta version.

John Banzhaf who led that jihad has publicly declared that fat people were next, using the same tactics (marginalization, dehumanization, etc.)

It was never about smoking or being fat, it was always about control and giving otherwise unemployable people jobs by increasing the Dem voting base with "counselors."

I despise them.

I didn't say that and don't appreciate the insinuation that I did...

I grant that some medical conditions make people lethargic, or hungry, which leads to weigh gain and difficulties losing weight.

Whether a metabolic/endocrine related condition or medication induced (steroids and other drugs I named as common treatments for things like asthma, allergic reactions, etc.. can also cause weight gain)

Also, most people making these excuses can certainly eat better and be more active to lose weight.

Key word: MOST. Agree.

No problem. It may age me, but I remember when they had the old “food stamps.” A candy bar was a good way to spend 30 or 40 cents...that ages me...wow...and get 60 cents in change.

Are you denying that some people are naturally heavier than others, and that the ONLY factor is food/drink consumption? I think that is just a denial of basic genetics. And I have no axe to grind - I am naturally slender.

"You all really have no clue what you're talking about making such simplistic statements."

I am naturally slender, and am amazed at the insistence of so many on this thread that ALL heavy people are so ONLY because they are undisciplined slobs who eat and drink too much. In the most charitable way I can put it, they are uninformed. In the nastiest way I can put it, they are liberals.

Your ignorance is stunning. So fat people are ignorant and want to be fat? Really?

There isn't any need to mischaracterize what I said. I said that obese people don't want to be fat - specifically, "People don't waddle along with an obese, toilet-busting butt because it makes them feel attractive. Most of these folks are just ignorant."

Most obese people don't want to be obese, but many of them are ignorant. No one ever taught them how to take care of themselves.

***************************

people are overweight/fat that have NOTHING to do with eating

This is what I mean by ignorance. How can people get fat without eating?

If you want to hang onto your delusion that obesity has nothing to do with eating, that's your business. But you shouldn't be encouraging other people to share that delusion. Some of these folks are eating fast food every night of the week. They're just poisoning themselves. Any one of them who let me control their diet would be thin.

Oink, oink, eat your poison. It's good for fast food stocks.
