The Democrats’ Precedent for Jailing Lois Lerner
Powerline ^ | May 8, 2014 | Steven Hayward

I consider Ken Starr’s finest achievement was getting so many Democrats on board to abolish the independent counsel, an unaccountable and therefore unconstitutional office that the Supreme Court mistakenly upheld way back in the 1980s in Morrison v. Olson. Starr’s genius was in revealing to Democrats that independent counsel investigations could target and harass Democratic presidents just as much as Republicans. And that was no fun.

Likewise I’m enjoying the Democrats sputtering now against Darrell Issa’s determination to hold Lois Lerner accountable for her clearly political targeting of conservative groups while she was at the IRS, because as with the case of the independent counsel, there are some good Democratic precedents for what Issa is doing. Roll Call reviews the precedents, concluding that Lerner might well be vulnerable to jailing.

Maybe they WANT her to go to jail.

That way they can point blame on the Republicans. These people will do ANYTHING to retain power. ANYTHING.

Don't kid yourself. Lerner will never go to jail. The communists Democrats and King Obama fear that if she goes it will only be time before she will want to appear again and will spill the beans. Case closed!!!!!!

I don’t think to many people of any political leaning would blame anyone if she was frog marched to the cell in the basement of Congress.

Maybe Lerner may not want to go to jail for some other OBot.

Or maybe the IRS Commissioner...

I say line up and knock them down.

This woman needs to be jailed. Leftist scum at all levels of government bureaucracy feel invicible and commit illegal acts on a daily basis. Take some high level scalps and watch the little fascists re-toe the line.

The Capitol jail should get a lot more business, especially with this most criminal administration in American history.

From the AG perjuror to the IRS stonewaller to the DHS evasionists they should have all been manhandled to the Capitor jail until they coughed up the information or the truth as the case warranted.

Don’t care if someday it’s used against Republicans. If they’re miscreants, they can answer to the People too.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if her attorney isn’t speaking to the Republicans behind closed doors even now. What do they call this? Making a proffer in exchange for immunity?

I like the taking scalps part.

Lerner knows the dirt, on who, and how high it goes. This puts Obama in a box, either scare her to shut her up and take the chance she doesn’t go public to protect herself, she has an untimely suicide or accident, or he pardons her. The pardon would tell the tale by showing that Obama has no interest in her coming clean and even the dumbest voter would then understand that there are two sets of laws, one for us and one set for his cohorts.
This idea, if Issa has the stones to do it, has no upside for the President. It is a trap that the more you fight it the more it grips.
I say, dust out the cells and go for it.

Go to jail? There is not a “smidgen of corruption” here.

Can the President pardon somebody that the Congress jails for contempt?

I think the odds of her getting some kind of promotion are better than her spending time in jail. She is the ultimate liberal victim.

It's all fun and games, prestige and living the life until...until well, you are faced with taking one for the team and going to the clink or some sort of Ft Marcy Park scenario.

And everyone knows, the worst thing about prison is the dementors.
