Putin is a thug and Russia has a lot of problems. But it could be logically argued that Putin is less of a thug than ObaMao and Russia's regime is less anti-Christian than ObaMao's. So this demographic reversal could be indicative that they are at least taking a small step in the right direction.

Religious people view children as a gift from God to help secure the future. The godless liberal views them as an inconvenience, at best, or even a liability which put additional demands on their zero sum view of the world.

I think you're a bit behind the times. You seem not to have noticed that the Cathedral of Christ the Savior once again stands in Moscow, Russian monasteries are full, the churches no longer the province of old baboushkas but well-attended by young and old, peasant and oligarch alike, Russian schools include religious education, the Russian army has Christian chaplains once again, and for the past two years, the Orthodox Church has influenced legislation in the Duma one matters of morality, and the demographic decline has reversed.
