When Emily Letts got pregnant, she knew she would get an abortion. Then she decided to film it. Letts, 25, is an abortion counselor at Cherry Hill Womens Center in New Jersey, which is where she had her abortion. The non-graphic video focuses on her face and shows her breathing and humming through the procedure. The doctor on the other side of the sheet is out of view. When she entered the Abortion Care Networks Stigma Busting video competition and won, the video went viral. Here, she explains why she decided to share her experience so publicly.

I found out I was pregnant in November. I had been working at the clinic for about a year. It was my first pregnancy, and, full disclosure, I hadn't been using any kind of birth control, which is crazy, I know. Im a sex educator, and I love talking about birth control. Before this experience, hormonal birth control scared me because of complications Id heard about from friends gaining weight, depression, etc. So I tracked my ovulation cycle, and I didnt have any long-term partners. I thought I was OK. But, you know, things happen. I wound up pregnant.

Once I caught my breath, I knew immediately I was going to have an abortion. I knew I wasnt ready to take care of a child. The guy wasnt involved in my decision. I called my supervisor and said, Excuse me, I am going to need to schedule one abortion, please. It was very early in the pregnancy, only two to three weeks.

It wasn’t your abortion, my dear Emily. It was your baby’s abortion. You were just there.
I have to believe that at some point in her life this woman will realize what a truly horrible thing she has done. I’ll leave it at that, as I find this story to be extremely nauseating.
Agreed.
You've come a long way baby.
Straight into the gutter. Woman are incredibly sad creatures today. I am sorry for my wonderful, vibrant, moral and together daughter to have to navigate these waters. I can only pray I have given her the tools, judgement, discernment and guidance to do so safely and wisely.
Yeah, I know. I forgot to even mention that. I wonder what other horrors were submitted to that.
I hope so too.
She wrote in the article that she posted it to Facebook. Of course, her FB is set to super-secret private, she’s shut down her twitter feed, she disabled comments on her video, and she’s getting eviscerated by comments at the Cosmopolitan site.
Methinks she’s judged America wrongly.
