The agency that manages the Pentagon Police Department and also runs networks and computers for the Office of the Secretary of Defense experienced a catastrophic network technological outage on Jan. 3, and repairs may not be complete until January 2015, an obscure document on the Federal Business Opportunities website revealed.
A Defense Department spokesman attributed the outage to the failure of a legacy component.
The contracting document, posted on May 2, said the outage experienced by the Pentagon Life Safety System Network and Life Safety Backbone left the Pentagon Force Protection Agency without access to the mission-critical systems needed to properly safeguard personnel and facilities, rendering the agency blind across the national capital region.
The Force Protection Agency provides security and services to 100 military buildings in Washington, Maryland and Virginia.
The agency estimated it would take six to 12 months to effect repairs and to upgrade the network core to mitigate future outage risks. Repairs include recovery of data after the catastrophic network technological outage and upgrade and replacement of switches and routers.

Chuck Hagel cannot address this problem, as he is too busy making more plans to force sodomy down the throats of the military.
And we would be publicising this, why?
Well, that’s convenient. Going to make is harder to get at all the info on Bengazi and the WH’s policy of building better enemies through cooperation and weapons.
Those 8088 IBM PC’s finally gave up the ghost.....................
“... a new network design that minimizes single point failure, including dual homing, which reduces the risk of failure.”
LOL...Are you kidding me?
Who in the Hell doesn’t provide contingency pathing, in the event of catastrophic failure?
Although this little set back will not preclude the normal issuance of bonuses.
Should DHCP on x.25 as well.... /S
The same people who don’t do double entry bookkeeping...
Not making vacuum tubes, germanium transistors, and punch cards anymore is coming back to haunt them. Silicon? Who the hell would make electronics out of sand? That’s crazy talk!
U-2 over Washington, DC?
That's why this stinks to high heaven. There is no possible way the Pentagon Police would not have state of the art computer infrastructure.
Reminds me of the time NASA claimed it "missed" Mars because a contractor used metric instead of standard measurements. Yeah, right. Because it's not like there are about ten thousand parameter checks before launch, and that the mission didn't use multiple waypoint confirmations during the flight. It was only when Mars was actually in sight that the computer system shrieked and said, "there's a standard measurement in here" and - supposedly - crashed.
Arrogant fricking bureaucrats don't even bother to come up with reasonable lies anymore.
Just a moment... Just a moment... I've just picked up a fault in the EA-35 unit. It's going to go 100% failure within 72 hours.
Whew, good thing that all the SECDEF files on Benghazi are backed up and will be available for the House Special Committee Hearings...wait, did they say Jan. 2015?
