The House of Representatives will vote today, Tuesday, at 5 pm on whether to hold former head of tax exempt groups at the IRS Lois Lerner in contempt of Congress. Lerner was voted in contempt by the House Oversight Committee back in April after failing to answer questions from lawmakers. Many argue Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights last year because she made an opening statement declaring her innocence before claiming she wanted to remain silent.
I think that there are arguments on both sides, but that it’s a waste of energy. I don’t think anyone is going take the lead for something that will too-easily be portrayed as taking power from the people and putting it in the hands of career politicians. Complaining about it is an “Old Man Shakes Fist at Clouds” kinda thing.
As a duly constituted [sic] Amendment, #17 is as valid as the original Article in defining the election of Senators, so unfortunately we’re stuck with it until it’s repealed (if ever). My hope is that it would become more straightforward for new States to be carved from existing ones that would be more representative of the people & areas involved.
In the case of Chucky Schumer for example, he seems to spend a lot of time in Western NY with nice speeches and goodies (e.g. aid for the Buffalo Bills) he knows he has the votes of the 3/4 of the New York population from downstate locked up; at this point, you’ll never get popularly-elected Senators from this part of the State, but”protégés” of his like Kirsten Gillibrand
Just heard the vote will be tomorrow.
Okay. Thank you.
Ah Bubba, thou must be kind to thine elders. Trust me on this, the Senate be needin' a rap up the side'o'the head right about now.
E.G., John McCain, my exact contemporary in military service, is an anal sphincter of preternatural stupidity, bad character, and professional ineptitude that no body of American men would select to serve in any function in a functional republic.
With Democrats in control of the Legislature and the Governorship, they were unable to pass gun control.
We’re not ALL idiots and there is no way an evil clown like Franken would have survived the selection process.
Norm Coleman either, but I digress...
I haven’t heard any more about a vote today. Anybody else?
Old Norm makes Charlie Brown look manly.
Yeah... Squishy RINO did not play well here. His campaign centered around bringing a mediocre hockey franchise back to the State and he wondered why he couldn’t swing the Middle.
Should have consolidated the Base FIRST, then worried about pandering to the Middle.
Well, here in TN we get Lamar and Porker-Corker lying to us at election time. The usual RINO game plan. I’m outnumbered by RINO voters.
Pray for better days. That’s about what I’m left with...
