Climate change affecting every region of US, new WH report finds

By Laura Barron-Lopez - 05/06/14 09:08 AM EDT

A new White House report released Tuesday concludes that human-generated climate change is having dramatic effects on every part of the nation.

The National Climate Assessment, which the administration touted as the most comprehensive look yet at global warming in the U.S., concludes that climate change is raising temperatures, making water more scarce and wildfires more common.

It said climate change has “moved firmly into the present” for the U.S., underscoring the need for urgent action to combat threats.

“Americans are noticing changes all around them,” the report states. “Summer are longer and hotter, and extended periods of unusual heat last longer than any living American has ever experienced. Winters are generally shorter and warmer.”

The report adds that coastal residents are seeing “more dramatic” changes with the increase of flooding.

“Observations unequivocally show that climate is changing and that the warming of the past 50 years is primarily due to human-induced emissions of heat trapping gases,” the report states.

President Obama, who has made combatting climate change a central part of his second term, plans extensive outreach on Tuesday to spread the findings of the report.

Obama plans to conduct one-on-one interviews with national and local TV meteorologists Tuesday, in what some have called a new strategy for the administration to communicate his climate agenda.

Obama's administration is pursuing new rules on carbon-emitting coal-powered plants as part of an effort to tackle climate change. The administration also recently punted a decision on building the Keystone XL pipeline, which environmental groups argue would significantly add to climate change.

Skeptics called the report another “scare tactic” by the administration.

“Facing a recovering, yet fragile, economy, with families across the country struggling to make ends meet, it is concerning that the Obama Administration is busy promoting its politically driven climate change agenda, instead of addressing the real issues plaguing our nation,” said Laura Sheehan, of the American Coalition for Clean Coal.

Critics of the Obama’s climate agenda argue that rather than pressing action on cutting emissions overseas, the administration should visit U.S. communities being impacted by the “costly regulations” on power plants it is working to finalize.

The highly publicized report comes on the heels of the United Nations global climate change report, which offered similar conclusions for the planet.

The new report includes research and evidence from 13 federal agencies. It found the average temperature in the U.S. has increased by 1.3 degrees Fahrenheit, coming in at 1.9 degrees Fahrenheit since 1895.

A majority of that increase took place since 1970, the report states. And the most recent decade was the nation’s hottest on record, with 2012 being the hottest year on record in the U.S.

The change in climate in the last 50 years, the report concludes, is a result of human activities, mainly from the burning of fossil-fuel energy sources.

The report breaks the U.S. into seven regions, detailing specific climate changes in each.

It said climate change is leading to drought in the Southwest, greater heat waves and precipitation in the Northeast, and lower crop yields as a result of rising carbon dioxide in the Midwest.

Isn't around 1970 when we started implementing emissions controls?

So using techniques from the AGW "correlation = causation" school of science, I'd have to include that the warming is caused by pollution controls. We'd better close the EPA if the planet is to have any chance of surviving.

Climate change is real and it’s rapidly changing our environment.

The climate has been changing since it formed around the earth 2 billion year ago. CO2 levels are a third of what they were during the Jurassic Period.

Estimates place the amount of carbon dioxide in the earth's atmosphere at seven times the levels prior to the industrial revolution, or around 1780. Pre-industrial levels were approximately 280 ppm, according to the EPA. That would make the Jurassic Period levels of carbon dioxide around 1,900 ppm. They tell us weather is not climate, until the weather is warm. Then it’s climate.

It was also the time of the last ice age. (grin)

I’m blaming the banning of leaded fuel then.

Here is my report after 60 years of observing this region - zero effect. Not a thing has changed.

The article is absolutely correct. The entire country is now at risk from these “green on the outside red on the inside” hoaxers and the repercussions of their AGW, AGC or ABCDEF policies. Taxes are higher. Energy is more expensive. We are in deeper debt. And they want more and more and more. Heck yes we are in danger.

So, since “Americans are seeing” .... that makes it fact. Shorter winters? My garden seeds didn’t see it. Lots of them didn’t germinate because it got too cold later than normal.

What do these people expect? Everyone go back to horse and carriages? Oh, can’t do that! Horses fart too much!

The democrats are looking for a campaign issue. I don’t believe most Americans give a damn. But they will once it’s been pounded into their heads day after day by Jon Stewart.

LOL! Yeah, and what about the daffodils in my yard? A month or so ago, they were barely poking 3” chutes from the cold and snow. Now, they are nearly done blooming. Imagine that!

Two words...Polar Vortex. This past winter was one of the coldest on record for most of the country and global temperatures are trending down for the last decade and a half. So where is all this global warming?

...and the deaths at Benghazi were caused by an Internet video.

Global warming has got to be true.

Just a few months ago it was too cold to raise tomatoes, corn, green beans, cucumbers, etc. in the garden.

Now because of global warming they are all growing.

The only reason you don’t believe in global warming is because it doesn’t have a catchy name.

I’m going to call it summer.

Summer, kind of catchy isn’t it.

Catchy name like that, in just a few weeks you will agree with me summer is real and it’s here.

I’ve also come up with a catchy name for global cooling.

I’m going to call it winter.

Climate change is real and it’s rapidly changing our environment.

You left out the political words "man made". Politicians want us to worry about man-made climate change. That is the democrat's lie so they can raise taxes.

But in case you missed this lesson in school, "climate change" has been with us since time began.

Best thing to do is have a home and come in out of the rain and cold. Keep the money you earn and do not give it to politicians who want to waste it on hare-brained schemes.
