Last night, Oklahoma was scheduled to execute two individuals. The second execution was to be of a man who raped and murdered an 11-month-old girl. That execution never took place because the first executionthat of a man who was involved in the murder and burial alive of a 19-year-old woman who walked in on a robberyran into some difficulties. The state was using a new lethal injection cocktail and, it seems, the poor murderer suffered a bit before expiring of a heart attack.
So how do we minimize suffering of the condemned? Our biggest problem as a society is that we have decided bloodlessness is a suitable stand-in for lack of suffering (and a way to protect the sensibilities of those who support the death penalty). Well, the pursuit of a bloodless execution seems to have backfired pretty badly here. And theres evidence that previous lethal injection cocktails werent much better. Allow me to propose a rather radical alternative: the guillotine.
the guillotine really seems to solve everyones problems: It was designed to deliver an efficient, quick, and painless death. It performs that task admirably.

I don't mean to sound overly flippant on the issue. The reason for that is this monster: Joseph Duncan. He's still drawing breath. He shouldn't be.
“Old Sparky” used to be the way Texas dispatched them.
I remember the UN and ACLU cried “cruel and unusual punishment” every time Reddy Kilowatt (brandname) sent a big tingle down their leg and up their a$$.
Perhaps it's time to hide the entire thing behind some hippie-dippy new-age ceremony, similar to "Carousel" in Logan's Run.
The Guillotine is you know... too European, hanging is good, firing squad is okay, but Old Sparky, now that’s the ticket, the only change would be to administer the current gradually.
At least for those who murdered their victims in a cruel and unusual manner, or they should be executed in the same manner as they executed their victim.
Any form of execution is humane as long as the criminal is unconscious.
KETAMINE and firing squad, guillotine, hanging, electric chair...anything.
the guillotine is fine gut the execution was 100% effective, HE’S DEAD!!!!!
well by that criteria, I guess the wood chipper is out too?
Apparently, it's in Dubrovnik.
Burn them at the stake. A hot stake is better than a cold chop.
When it comes to wood chipper messes, you should ask Henry Lee.
But if you are interested high deterrent value execution methods, you should read the opening of Soviet defector Victor Suvorov's book Aquarium, which describes the GRU, an organization Suvorov managed to leave by means other than the mode he describes.
“And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. “ Revelation 20:4
The perp also put up a battle royal to frustrate the execution and disrupt the whole procedure. That’s why they had to cut down to find his femoral vein. IOW he pooped into his own nest and has to live with it for eternity.
“Whos going to clean up the mess?”
The next condemned man in line. It will give him something to do and think about as he awaits his turn.
