most breeds live 3 years, select others, up to five years.
we’re running a bit of a retirement home here, as we have a “no kill” policy in effect. Ladies who’ve quit laying after their four hundred or so eggs are kept on as “social advisers” and “community organizers”.
the damn rooster is one lucky SOB as well.
One of my clients was a farmer. They also had 2000 egg laying chickens, replacing 1000 each year. So who got 1000 chickens every year.....Campbells Soups. Because they were still doing this in the early 60s, I figured my kids were eating their chickens.
