Why Liberals Think Conservatives Are Racist
The Federalist ^ | 5/2/2014 | Rachel Lu

....The Ballad of the Civil Rights Movement has long been liberals’ favorite bed-time story. Martin Luther King Day may be the only day of the year when they feel completely, unambiguously proud to be Americans. It’s hard to exaggerate how important this is to liberal political thinking. They are perpetually looking for new ways to recapture that high.

Conservatives tend to miss this because we see the Civil Rights story as settled history. We’re all pleased to have sloughed off the bigotry of our ancestors. Of course we want people to be judged “by the content of their character” and not by their skin. What’s left to debate here?

Liberals have yet to turn that page. This is their favorite series, and like every loyal fan base, they always want another sequel.....[O]ne of the most appealing things about a 2008 Senator Obama was the perception that he could be the star of a particularly thrilling new episode. Of course, if that’s the storyline, it’s no mystery which role was available for conservatives. “Racial coding” became a convenient fix for a glaring plot hole: Republican politicians’ refusal to follow their racist script.

Of course, for conservatives this is a pretty bad deal. We can’t stop being the racist party if that’s the only “role” our political enemies have available.

Nothing takes a leftist off his name-calling game quicker than calling him a Nazi.

Their heads explode. They completely lose their attack trajectory. They foam at the mouth, and their eyeballs roll back in their sockets. The word “Nazi” is a great way to stuff a leftist tirade down their gullets. It’s like handing an ape a grenade after pulling the pin. Just stand back and watch them sputter.

As a general rule, any time Democrats accuse you of doing something bad, it is because they are already doing it themselves.

This battle will be endless through time, generations and eras.

I disagree. Any charge, endlessly repeated, without proof given will eventually lose its force and impact.

IOW, the Emperor's New Clothes. You can keep inflating the racist bubble, but it will eventually collapse.

Generally good article by Rachel. I don’t think she puts enough emphasis on what I think is the most significant reason American liberals assume American conservatives must be racist.

In their heart of hearts, they think of themselves as heroic battlers in the war against the ultimate evil of racism.

If there is no racism to fight, they lose their purpose of existence. Hence the many, many examples of racist hoaxing.

They are so desperate to have racism to fight that they will if need be create it.

It also follows that since progressives innermost self-identification is as fighters against racism, anybody who opposes them on any issue must by definition be a racist.

The anti-antiracist must be a racist himself or at least an enabler. Just like the anti-anticommunist is a commie or at least a commie symp.

IOW, this whole bit about conservatives as racists has little to do with what we believe. It’s mostly a result of how liberals think of themselves.

Rachel seems to be ignorant of term agitprop..
most likely the term propaganda confuses her as well...

It’s quite simple really.. racism is just a gambit..
like the “all the rich republicans” gambit..

Cloward-Piven tactics must not be in her language resume either..
-OR- she has that term scewed too....

Could be that Rachel is not too smart..
Looks for easy answers... a lazy thinker... or bored by actual “work”..

With liberals you got yer dumb tools and yer intelligent ideologues..
The intelligent ideologues know exactly what they are doing..
Consider their SUCCESS!..... they are very successful..

Heck they got the inventor of Romney Care to run against Barry Half-White..
Had the republicans eating out of their hands.. like monkeys... or maybe Lemurs..
STILL DO!..

The only thing I regret would give people the legitimate impression that conservatives are racists is this terrible trend that some conservatives will take any leftist who is racist under their bosom and make the person into a hero. That is not conservatism.

Sadly. some conservatives forget to abide by ytheir principles and know get their definition of conservatism from MSNBC. There is an anti-black attitude among some on FR> that was not here 10 years ago, and I don't know why that needs to be.

I think that you’re right that people like Donald Sterling should not be getting conservative support - although I think it fair to distinguish between being concerned about how his views were made public, as opposed to coming to the defense of the views themselves.

And while I won’t excuse bigotry, I would contend that much of the increase in racial polarization that can be observed here, as well as other places in this country, can be traced back in many instances to the posturing of a president who, while promising to be a racial unifier, has seldom wasted an opportunity to engage in most divisive kind of racial politics.

BINGO ...!!!

It’s actually a mental disorder (per Krauthammer); accusing others of being what they are .. it’s called “projection”.

Once married someone like that .. scary people.

That may be the case, but the bottom line, is: are you willing to let your beliefs be changed by Obama?

In an ideal, or even a less corrosive world, the answer would be “no.”

But in today’s America, it’s difficult to not be influenced by resentment and double-standards.

Excellent post. let me say as a former liberal you’ve nailed it. As to being called a ‘’racist’’, I like the late William F. Buckley’s answer to that one: “I’m not a racist. are you?’’.

I admit it. There are some racists in the Republican party.

I may be one myself, depending on how you define it.
However there are many more in the democrat party.
Racists, sexists, marxists, anarchists, they have more of all of those groups. They also have a corner on the naïve, needy victim class. They are the predators, and the prey on the same team.
we are the other team. We choose to be neither.

bottom line- You gotta have a boogie man to sell what the left is pushing. The race card is the most coveted one in their deck.

Whenever a lib spouts off about racism I hit them with historical facts. They often sputter about how “their party changed” and I point out the late Sen Byrd (D), the Klansman who served until his death in 2010. They've had bigots in office spanning three separate centuries (late 1800s - 2010).

There is an anti-black attitude among some on FR that was not here 10 years ago, and I don't know why that needs to be.

Ten years ago, any anti-black statement was stepped on by the Mods to a much harder degree than is the case today. Today, the Mods don't seem to care as much as those who were Modding 10 years ago.

Part of it may be the increasing anti-white attitude that is being displayed by blacks, for example the "knockout game", and the Wichita Massacre. The increased notice of the extent of black-on-white crime erodes "good will" like acid on limestone.

This erosion of good will is masked by surface pleasantries and the need to not reveal what you really think, to avoid social unpleasantness. But it is there, eroding under the surface like a forming sinkhole. When the erosion has gone far enough that the surface crust finally collapses, some people will be shocked at "how fast things changed".

This article is probably right when considering the average liberal on the street - young, idealistic and totally divorced from reality. For the political leftist elite, however, it’s much simpler than that - racism is simply the lever to get minority voters (living and otherwise) to the polls to continue to vote massah into office. The rat party would be about as powerful as the greens without them.

When people call it anti-black it's the same affront that is used to lump ILLEGAL aliens with immigrants thereby obliterating any chance of a rational discussion.

The latter is relatively easy to handle compared to the former. I try to distinguish between

I do that vis-a-vis my comments though I know that in the real world it's almost out of control.
