President Barack Obama today tried to raise his supporters long-standing opposition to jury-directed death-penalties by suggesting to a German reporter today that Americans jurors and judges may be biased against African-American murderers.
What happened in Oklahoma was deeply troubling, said Obama, referring to a recent execution of an African-American man in Oklahoma.
The comments came two years after Obama used a Rose Garden appearance to focus African-Americans attention on a dispute over the killing of a young black man Trayvon Martin by a neighborhood watch volunteer in Florida. If I had a son, hed look like Trayvon, Obama said in March 2012, months before the November election.
A Pew report in March showed that only 36 percent of African-Americans and 40 percent Latinos support the death penalty. In contrast, roughly 63 percent of whites support the death penalty.
In Oklahoma, the condemned man did not die quickly because his vein collapsed, hindering passage of the first of three execution drugs. Fifteen years ago, the man had kidnapped four people. He eventually executed one of them an 18 year-old teenager after she watched her grave being dug for 20 minutes. The murderer was condemned after testimony from multiple witnesses.
Instead of sidestepping a foreign reporters question about a state-level issue in Oklahoma, Obama choose to expand the Oklahoma case into a veiled attack on the death penalty.
We have seen significant problems racial bias, uneven application of the death penalty..."(continued)

“What happened in Oklahoma was deeply troubling, said Obama, referring to a recent execution of an African-American man in Oklahoma.”
I find it more troubling the way the executed criminal condemned his victims to death and killed them in a brutal and painful manner.
Why won’t any of our GOP politicians respond to Obama in this way? The lack of response is nothing but acquiescence.
The most divisive president in the history of the Republic.
Soon we’ll discover that Trayvon was in Benghazi, just gettin’ himself some Skittles, when those four white Americans started shooting at him.
Please post a link. I’ve not seen any of this reported before. Thanks. No snark intended.
The report also outlined chaotic scenes in the lead-up to the execution. Earlier that day, Lockett had been Tasered by members of The Correctional Emergency Response (CERT) team after he fought with guards and refused to be restrained for medical X-rays carried out as part of the execution procedure.
After being taken to the prisons medical room, Lockett was also found to have a self-inflicted laceration on his right arm; he received medical treatment but stitches were not needed.
Lockett refused to meet with his lawyers or eat in the hours prior to his death and at 5.19pm he was finally taken into the execution chamber; the IV was not inserted until 6.18pm and the execution commenced at 6.23pm.

And somewhere else I read he had cut his arm in the attempt to make it harder to find a vein later.
All in all, this POS had had very bad end of life day. No where near as bad as 19 year old Stephanie Neiman, but bad enough.
SLAIN
Stephanie Neiman: Two weeks before she was killed, on June 3, 1999, she had graduated from Perry High School.
yes, I know that, my quote refers to something said recently about Benghazi talking points.
Thanks. This pretty well shows the POS did everything he could to foul up the procedure, succeeded to a great degree, and suffered because he did. There’s no way anything was wrong with the drugs or basic procedure. Instead, it was a lot like a hanging subject biting the hangman just before the drop and getting the noose placed to produce a dangle and strangle procedure or flipping the bird to a firing squad and having some of the members miss his vital points. All in all, he pooped his nest and had to do a dirt nap in the poop. A good thing to celebrate, not cry about.
