In a long-winded speech on Wednesday at Georgetown University, former president Bill Clinton criticized the political press who, he says, are so often blinded by a storyline that they ignore reality, especially when it comes to Obamacare.
One of the problems is, if a policymaker is a political leader and is covered primarily by the political press, there is a craving that borders on addictive to have a storyline, said Clinton. And then, once people settle on the storyline, there is a craving that borders on blindness, to shoehorn every fact, every development, everything that happens into the storyline, even if its not the story.
Clinton went on to say that public policy is often dimly understood, and often distrusted and disconnected from the consequences of the policies being implemented, adding that he felt that most intensely in the development, the passage and the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.
Funny, I dont recall Clinton being critical of the media when they were being blinded by Democratic propaganda about Obamacare, and heartily endorsed its socialized medicine model as a panacea for our health care system.
The medias trust of Obamas and the Democratic Party s promises backfired on them as problems surfaced, requiring waivers, delays and extensions in an effort to try and make the law work.
Instead of helping the Democrats, Obamacare has become an albatross around their necks, just as they head into a midterm election. That has Clinton and other high profile Democrats practicing damage control, which has largely failed.
If Bill wants to woo the media in preparation for Hillarys likely 2016 presidential run, yesterdays speech was not a good start to that relationship.
In 2008 when Obama stomped Hillary in the early caucus states I fully expected the Clintons to open the book on Obama's questionable citizenship, ID documents, lack of school records, birth certificate, etc.
But as desperate as they were to win the nomination for Hillary, there wasn't even a peep from them or their hit team about it.
After watching them shred innocent people over the slightest potential threat for 8 years, that hands-off approach to Obama was entirely out of character.
Nice!
What media is he talking about? Other than some half-assed mentions of how few people have signed up — and oddly enough, the remark that Fallon made on the Tonight Show — it’s been all-Obama all-the-time for over five years now.
I saw a tabloid story (another one) about how Slick is going to drop dead any minute of some disease. If it were only true, I would hope it happened while he’s driving along the Pacific Coast Highway, with Jimmy Carter riding shotgun.
Thanks Academiadotorg.
The media also gave unfavorable coverage to Flight 370, to the Bird Flu, and to the Bay of Pigs. That’s what journalists are supposed to do - they give unfavorable coverage to real news stories. It’s just rare for them to do it with a story that hurts their messiah.
Don’t I know it........*sigh*
Clinton’s worried that 4 members of the press aren’t wearing knee pads for every democrat who walks and chews gum at the same time.
