The American economy gained steam in April, adding 288,000 jobs, while the unemployment rate fell to 6.3 percent, the lowest level since September 2008.
After a sharp slowdown in December and January, and a modest improvement since then, economists had been forecasting a healthy gain for April as consumer and business activity rose in tandem with temperatures in many parts of the country.
But the good news was tempered by a drop of 806,000 in the number of Americans in the labor force, pushing the labor participation rate down sharply. And despite the fall in joblessness, average hourly earnings did not rise at all.
The consensus among economists polled by Bloomberg before the Labor Departments announcement Friday morning called for an increase of 218,000 in nonfarm payrolls, with the unemployment rate falling by 0.1 percent to 6.6 percent.
To be sure, month-to-month swings in hiring are a snapshot of the economy, rather than a portrait, and frequently blur.

Ultimately it is to embrace heaven again. And we will need to embrace heaven on our knees before we will see it walking around again in our land.
I am not woofing you. God’s about a lot more than “good morals.” In fact “good morals” are a surface phenomenon. A place can have “good morals” and still be rather anemic. The true courage comes when it dawns on you that the God you embrace is truly victorious. Then, you might bumble and stumble and even do immoral things from time to time and still you’ll see grand progress.
Yes its so much better. 50 million people of working age out of work and 288,000 new jobs. It takes 200,000 or so a month to keep up with the birth rate alone.. I’m so optimistic. Not!
US jobs will reverse the trend of “going to China” the moment they stop being bled to death.
There’s nothing wrong with free trade to China. Let trade in the US be equally free. Then watch both the US and China prosper.
:-) Snicker!
Sooooo.....we had 288,000 new jobs added last month.
Yet 806,000 left the job market.
By my calculations that’s net loss of 518,000 jobs for the month.
Can someone please explain to me how Washington DC does its math?
The DJIA apparently is less than thrilled, only up 30 points right this minute.
They know the truth.
A: What number does Dear Leader want?
Yes the fedgov gets to do the calculating and the media get to cheer them on.
Wait a minute. Didn’t we just experience one of the lowest growth rates the last quarter? Now I’m supposed to believe that now there’s a hiring boom. This is plain crap with the numbers being cooked. Anyone can see the country is not in an economic recovery.
We do not have “free trade” with China.
We have China gobbling up American jobs.
We need jobs in America. Not an “economy” which has now become nothing but a gigantic import machine.
A gigantic import machine only works, until the money runs out. They we’re scr*wed.
Big time.
The conservatives need to lead. Bring back jobs right here to America.
Now.

Exactly! How on earth can we be statistically that close to full employement when we have the lowest labor force participation rate since 1978??? And I don’t buy the argument that Baby Boomer retirements are what’s driving down the participation rates. As a matter of fact, there’s TONS of evidence out there that Boomers are actually having to stay in the work force much longer now than previous generations because they simply don’t have enough money saved to sustain retirement.
Yes. However: Rainbows! Kittens! Fluffy Clouds! Unicorns! Skittles! And... Obama..... (orgasmic siiiigggghhhhh)
(This concludes the rebuttal from the New York Times)
The way to do it is to make it at least close to as easy to work in the USA as to have people work in China.
This is the politics of yes.
You could take all your business to a slowly slaughtered golden goose and it would still be dying.
Take the chains off the goose.
Ok. I did it. What's our next step?
No, it isn’t concluded without “Big Fat Lies!”
Quitting out of the workforce is NOT a victory.
I agree that Democrats need to stop making our fedgov ever more involved in American business.
But the GOP needs to lead the return of businesses.
This year, China will pass America.
This would be a very good time, for the GOP to rediscover America, for a source of employment.
Right now.
China never ate our lunch.
We threw our own lunch away.
“It’s the very definition of bunk. “Bunk” should be the Democrats’ slogan. “
I prefer the word “bunkum.”* It has a nice ring to it!

1.
insincere speechmaking by a politician intended merely to please local constituents.
2.
insincere talk; claptrap; humbug.”
That because according to dingbat Pelosi, unemployment compensation stimulates the economy!
