The former exchange student from Seattle delivered the fatal slash as cohorts restrained victim Meredith Kercher during a 2007 drug-fueled get together, the judicial panel in Florence asserted in a 337-page document.
In their lengthy dissertation explaining the motivation behind their guilty verdict, the judges said the evidence shows Knox lashed the deadly wound to the throat.
The judges also concluded that Kercher, 21, of Great Britain was stabbed with two different knives, including the one wielded by Knox.
The report found Knoxs ex-boyfriend Rafaelle Sollecito and Rudy Guede were equally responsible for Kerchers death.
Guede, who is serving a 16-year prison sentence for the murder, told investigators that Kercher had accused Knox of stealing 300 euros from her bedroom in the house they shared in Perugia, Italy.
Meredith was immobilized and was unable to put up any useful resistance due to the fact that she was overpowered by a number of aggressors and simultaneously stabbed with the blades, the judges wrote in the report.
The report was written to support the panels conviction of Knox and Sollecito in January. Defense lawyers now have 90 days to appeal to Italys high court.
From her home in Seattle, Knox scoffed at the report.
The recent motivation document does not and cannot change the forensic evidence: Experts agreed that my DNA was not found anywhere in Merediths room, while the DNA of the actual murderer, Rudy Guede, was found throughout that room and on Merediths body, Knox said in a statement Tuesday.
This forensic evidence directly refutes the multiple-assailant theory found in the new motivation document, she said. This theory is not supported by any reliable forensic evidence.
She said she remained hopeful that the Italian Supreme Court will once again recognize my innocence.
Knox has vowed to fight any attempts to extradite her to Italy, saying, theyll have to pull me back kicking and screaming.
She and Sollecito were initially found guilty in 2009 and both were sentenced to 25 years in prison. An appeals court overturned the convictions in 2011 and released Sollecito and Knox, who immediately returned to the U.S.
In March 2013, Italys highest criminal court set aside the acquittal and ordered a new trial. During the retrial, Knox, who remained in Seattle, and Sollecito were convicted.
Sorry, folks. I have developed a major tremor in my right hand related to my 12/11 accident. Whether touchpad or mouse, I’m double posting frequently.
She may be guilty of being a tramp, but that does not make her a murderer. She was not even there the night of the murder. No DNA? you have got to be kidding me. No police man/detective in their right mind (unless your in 15th century witch hunt Italy) would charge in a violent scene like this. It never happens. NEVER.
It’s a 337 page rehash of why they had the right person in jail until they let him get early release.
Rudy Guede is prancing free.
They’ve already found the killer and tossed him in prison. As a matter of fact, I think he’s already served most or all of his sentence. That little fact is apparently immaterial in the Italian justice system.
The Knox case is simply tabloid fervor gripping an idiotic and dysfunctional nation.
Rudy Guede, an African immigrant with a history of burglary and brandishing knives at people during said burglaries, broke into a residence where a number of university students were living. One young woman was there at the time, and a struggle ensued in the woman’s bedroom. She was attacked, stripped, sexually assaulted, stabbed multiple times and killed. Guedde made off with murdered woman’s cell phone and some currency. During the attack and escape, Guede left behind bloody handprints and footprints in the bedroom along with a streak of blood in one of the common areas of the building.
A little note here, the Italian militia which functions as a police force and the larger state police force (carabinieri and polizia di stato) are not the F.B.I., to get an idea what you’re dealing with here think Mayberry if it were originally written as a Telemundo Soap Opera.
Miss Knox and her boyfriend were typical ditzy, clueless, drug-addled lefty college kids. Due to an extreme deficit in common sense, and likely a little chemical assistance from recreational herbs, they didn’t quite react to the murder and police questioning as you’d expect intelligent, sharp, put-together adults would. So, naturally, when the drama-queen Italian police forces show up to investigate a murder they assume it couldn’t possibly be something as mundane as a piece of crap, waste of flesh criminal immigrant robbing, raping, and murdering a woman. Why the very allegation is undoubtedly racist or something. The murdered woman’s roommate must obviously be a jealous witch that staged a burglary and sexual assault, with the help of her boyfriend and a local black man or two, in order to serve as a cover up for a complex murder conspiracy.
European tabloids descended on the case like a pack of wolves. The public ate up every lurid detail and loved the “man bites dog” nature of the made-up-story as well as the racial elements involved. Think of Tom Wolfe’s novels and the hunt for the great white defendant, except a public orgy of the media and justice system a thousand times more lurid and absurd than anything fiction could reasonably convey.
“At any rate, I believe the very simplest explanation is she was involved. To believe otherwise is too much of a stretch. I say guilty and extradite her. Don’t play if you can’t pay.”
Bull. Based on your own hot air alone.
Plus, she is innocent.
That did make me laugh.
Sorry about your injury. Yup....the new theory has at least one thing going for it: it’s new. Otherwise they seem to be making it up as things go along.
Italian judge who threw out murder convictions against Amanda Knox condemns report stating she DID kill Meredith Kercher, saying it is more like a movie script than evidence
I thought it was Mr. Plum with a candlestick.
No, the simplest explanation is that Rudy Guede did it all by himself.
Of course, we'll never know for sure, the Italian courts being more than incompetent. Certainly, they have no business trying any American!
Sorry I missed your ping, Scoutmaster. :-( I was away from FR for two months.
Since she was previously found “not guilty”, extraditing her would subject her to double jeopardy, which is why I think US judges will likely say no.
I agree. She has been found guilty, then not guilty. Now guilty again? We won’t extradite.
However, I’m unsure of her innocence. Her behavior after the murder and her testimony make her look very suspicious.
In July just go to Lago Maggiore. :)
Waterski in the heat of the day, and then spend the rest of the evening at table under your pergola..... Sigh...
Ive been to Italy and the camera came out often to capture some beautiful views. But, I had to hold my nose often too. And, the Italians are surly and lazy. And, everything there is utterly corrupt. And, the beauty of Italy is no grander than one can easily find in Carmel CA, Santa Fe, or the Napa Valley, or many other places in the US with similar climate.
You can’t call every citizen surly and lazy. Sheesh.
Part of the beauty of Italy is the culture. The civilization dating back so far.
And in terms of being corrupt, Italy makes no bones about it. Everyone is paid off and you can’t trust officials at all. Different from here where we think we CAN trust our officials and believe they are above corruption.
No problem. I thought you would find this interesting.

If I can remember that, I’m gonna steal it!
