I’ve seen those figures, although I do not have them at hand. Obama and Biden have far outspent W. It is not possible to compare Reagan and bush without a lot of MATH because the difference in price of jet fuel and inflation in general. But, it stands to reason that it costs less to vacation at your own home (Santa Barbara Ranch, Kennebunkport, ME, and Crawford, TX ranch) than it does to gallivant to Martha’s Vinyard and Hawaii for a month each time — with a separate flight for your dogs.

Of course Clinton got a sweet deal at his NY mansion in retirement where he charges rent to the SS to live in the guest house. The SS pays rent that more than offsets the mortgage payment. So, it’s a profit making endeavor.

Bush had to have the ranch given SS protection and probably physically reinforced in various ways...but then, Bush wasn’t afraid of his own country’s population, and the main threat was foreign. The now-forgotten anti-war loonies who camped out around his property (something Obama would never have allowed) were a pain in the neck but probably not much of a security threat.

Bush generally went to the ranch or to Camp David for his vacations. Camp David is already reinforced, secure and heavily protected. To my knowledge, Obama has virtually never used it.

Neither Bush nor his wife went gallivanting off on separate vacations. And like all other presidents, Bush generally tried to have world leaders meet with him at Camp David. (Probably the fact that no world leaders want to meet with Obama unless he comes to their country on bended knee may have had an impact on that one, though!)

If the current president were anybody but Obama and his hostile wife, the press would be frothing at the mouth about these expenditures.
