I wonder if the NBA has the ability to seize the franchise from Sterling without compensation in its rules somewhere.

The First Amendment was and is to my knowledge, still in effect. Sue the NBA and everyone of the bastards who are fining and going after this guy. He certainly has enough money to get it done. I would sell the team to China to muddy the NBA’s waters. There has got to be several ways to put the hurt on them so start there.

I wouldn’t walk across the street to watch a professional basketball ‘game”.

How can the NBA ban a team owner from watching his team?

If I was him I would trade the top scoring Clippers player to a league in China!

You forget that lawsuits have NOTHING WHATEVER TO DO WITH LAW, but are only about winning a jury over. ANYTHING is possible with a jury.

You'd have to get the case to a jury first. Meaning it would have to survive a motion to dismiss, and then a motion for summary judgment.

The First Amendment has nothing to do with this. Nothing at all.

We know the government can now make you buy insurance. Now, we’re going to find out if the government can make you SELL a basketball team.

I wonder if this Sterling is a big DemocRat donor.

He has been small donor to Democratic candidates. He contributed to Gray Davis, Bill Bradley and Patrick Leahey.

Yep, typical libs..they are only in favor of something when it benefits THEM..Im surprised the left is so outraged over Sterling, after all Sterling is a giant liberal douche who gave a lot of money to liberal candidates such as Patrick Leahy, I wonder, will Leahy be forced to give back the dough Sterling gave him

Was it the woman who looked like a female impersonator who recorded him? So much for “privacy”. - Saw her on a news report; she was wearing some sort of a riot face shield, or something that was actually an improvement over her natural face (the one that looks like it was smashed in an accident or something - you know, that one.) - Girl?friend? Huh?!

rumor is Magic wants to buy the team at a fire sale price

It sure sounds as if they intend to steal the team from him.The NBA became yesterday's game for me when Bird,Parrish,McHale and DJ left the Celtics.I haven't watched an NBA game since.

Biden: “I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” Biden said. “I mean, that’s a storybook, man.” (Watch Biden’s comments and Obama’s reaction Video)

Reid:“light-skinned” African American who had “no negro dialect..”

thank you! i knew Biden had said something just as stupid... but i did not know that Harry Reid had made those comments! sheesh... bias, double standard... intellectual dishonesty to the hilt...

The merits. There is a binding contract (the NBA constitution/by-laws), and the league acted within the scope of its authority under that contract.

And those are what CON? It likely is that it would take a majority of NBA owners to vote Sterling out of the league. And I doubt the owners gave the NBA Commish the unilateral power to remove an owner from his NBA team.

Agree.
The decision should have been more deliberative. They aren’t even sure of the validity or legality of their evidence.

And become even more reviled? I remember vividly that story from ESPN the Magazine (June 1, 2009 issue--I still have that issue) and it detailed the shocking level of virulent racism and misogyny practiced by one Donald L. Sterling.

In short, Sterling brought this on all by himself.

Dude, where have you been? I don’t often see the law standing in the way of insanity on hot button legal issues. Do you? Should Trayvon’s case ever have seen a jury? I remember in the 90s reading word for word the Congressional statute laying out the FDA’s jurisdiction. It was food and things intended to help the ill. PERIOD!!!!! PERIOD!!!! Tobacco lawyers argued that FDA therefore had ZERO jurisdiction over cigs. Did it help em?

"The merits. There is a binding contract (the NBA constitution/by-laws), and the league acted within the scope of its authority under that contract."

The Commissioner was asked in the Press Conference what by law or constitution article was breached and the Commissioner declined to answer saying only that he had the OK from the lawyers.

It's likely very vague, at best.

This has lawsuit written all over it.

Racist Clippers Owner Donald Sterling Has Only Contributed to Democrats

Clippers owner Donald Sterling lives in Beverly Hills, has a long history of bigoted behavior in his Los Angeles business dealings, and according to a 2011 RealGM report, was a very occasional Democratic donor in the 1990s:

Donald Sterling, Los Angeles Clippers
Records show Sterling has donated just $6,000, with no activity since the early 1990s. He supported Gray Davis early in his career, as well as Bill Bradley.

At the time TMZ released its recording, Sterling was scheduled to receive a lifetime achievement award from the NAACP.
